The sailors on board the Avenir sent a distress call to the U.S. Coast Guard, flight and rental car reservations saying that the vessel had lost its rudder and steering ability. The Coast Guard relayed that message to the Norwegian Star , which diverted flight and rental car reservations from its course to pick up the distressed yachtsmen , according to USA Today .
The Star was en route from New York City to Bermuda. The Avenir had departed Bermuda for Bristol, Rhode Island two days before the rescue. According to Cruise Critic , the yacht had ties to the Newport Bermuda yacht race .
In late May, Disney Cruise Line's flight and rental car reservations Fantasy saved four men adrift off the coast of Florida flight and rental car reservations . In March, a Princess Cruises ship allegedly ignored a distressed fishing vessel . The sole survivor from that boat is suing Princess Cruises for not coming to his aid . Another lawsuit against the cruise line was filed on behalf of the family of one of the deceased flight and rental car reservations fishermen .

I have absolutely NO RESPECT for NCL after the shameful (and probably illegal) way they disposed of SS Norway, the ship that is largely credited with revitalizing the cruise industry, and the ship that provided the foundation on which NCL was built, after a long and successful career dating back to 1962. There were plenty flight and rental car reservations of buyers for the ship, yet NCL circumvented international law in hastily sending the ship to the breakers under false pretenses and without first removing any of the hazardous materials used in its construction, as they were required to do under international law, thereby exposing workers involved in its demolition to asbestos, mercury, and radioactive hazards. The prevailing thought is that they disposed of the ship as quickly as possible in order to get rid of any evidence of poor maintenance that would have exposed NCL to criminal charges and/or civil liability as a result of the boiler explosion that killed several crew members and ended SS Norway's otherwise exemplary career.
NCL also bought the SS United States flight and rental car reservations with a promise to return her to active duty as a "state of the art" ocean liner. They did absolutely nothing with this promise and she still sits in a Philadelphia harbor and putting flight and rental car reservations her up for sale yet again. They never intended to re-activate the ship and only bought her to copy the design of her hull of which to date, holds the Blue Ribband for the fasted transatlantic crossing. The SS United States Conservancy assumed ownership of the SS United States in February flight and rental car reservations of 2011 and will hopefully be able to keep the ship from the scrap yard. It is some relief that they will refit and rebuild her and place her in a yet to be disclosed city, which will be announced by the summer of 2013. NCL can take a flying leep............SAVE the SS United States!
I too am boycotting NCL, but for entirely flight and rental car reservations different reasons. We were long-time pax on that line, with over 20 cruises flight and rental car reservations in high-end suites and running up HUGE onboard accounts with restaurants, wine and spa services. The food was only fair, the service was spotty, flight and rental car reservations but the biggest thing is their policies.
They are now pushing for families, even giving free stuff to kids, but they don't require parents to do the right thing and MANAGE their kids. Kids are turned loose 24/7, imposing on others while Mom and Dad are sitting by the pool with monster 'helmets' of beer, moving back and forth to the buffet like starving elephants. Meanwhile the kids are in the adult pool, running up and down corridores at 2 AM ringing door bells, breaking into meeting rooms and wrecking them for all to hear at 1 AM. Mom and Dad are never held accountable.
Then there's their smoking policy. I'm highly sensitive. They allow smoking in cabins and on balconies, and on a cruise 12 weeks ago, a selfish chain-smoker smoked either below or forward of our suite, and that filthy smoke filled our cabin 24/7. I had a violent reaction and have been horribly sick for 12 weeks. flight and rental car reservations NCL did nothing. After all, they might lose a buck if they required pax to respect the health of others.
It is the duty of every mariner to render aid to a vessel in distress UNLESS to do so would endanger flight and rental car reservations the mariner's own vessel and passengers. They can still render aid by facilitating flight and rental car reservations communications between a vessel in distress and another potential rescuer flight and rental car reservations for example reporting the position, situation, and number of persons on board the distressed vessel. There are no exemptions, exeptions, or excuses for not rendering aid.
everything said hear today is the opionion of each one, guys no need for attack words or saying people are dumb, or you don't know what your talking about. there's no need to get huffy over this. this is what starts wars! people that can't compromise or just let it go.
So does anyone here see the irony in the Norwegian story vs. the Princess story? The Norwegian ship came to the aid of vessel that had "radioed" its distress. In other words they were able to convey something was wrong. As such, the Norwegian captain knew the circumstances, what to do, and acted on it o save those people. Meanwhile... 3 dudes go out on a fishing excursion into the Pacific ocean on a "tiny" boat. No radio, no flare gun, no signal aids, no provisions, no planning, and apparently no thinking. And somehow, we are going to put all the blame on the Princess ship captain that he didn't act to turn his ship around because some bird watchers thought that "MAYBE" the little boat they saw was in distress. Had the little boat shot a signal flare.... rescue. Had the little flight and rental car reservations boat had a radio to call for help... rescue. Had the little boat had any number of other signaling devices... rescue. Nope. It's all the big bad cruise lines fault three men were ill prepared to face the sea.
The Princess ship saw men waving incessantly, not someone, saying "oh hi, hows it going, party on dudes?" Anyone with half a wit can discern the difference. The cruise ship was also notified by other passengers, birdwatchers armed with binoculars, just like the ship had binoculars.
I was on a Norwegian cruise in the '90s when the captain flight and rental car reservations turned the ship completely around to pick up some Cuban rafters in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. Our next stop was the Bahamas and we (the passengers) were told the rafters would be surrendered to Bahaman immigration officials.
"We then used spotting scopes with a fixed tripod and I could see this strange little boat and at least one person standing up waving a piece of cloth high over his head, up and down," passenger Jeff Gilligan told MSNBC. "We could see it was not moving – there were nets pulled on to the boat and apparently no nets in the water. So we soon questioned – is this a stranded, disabled boat, signaling flight and rental car reservations us for help?"
Another bird watcher, Judy Meredith, was able to phone up to the ship's bridge flight and rental car reservations with the help of a crew member. After not hearing back from the Star Princess' crew, Meredith sent the ship's coordinates in an email to a Coast Guard website, to no avail."
So nobody was POSITIVE flight and rental car reservations they were in distress. Could it have been interpreted the men were simply waving at the big cruise ship passing by? What's the fisherman's culpability for not being prepared? Why didn't they have a radio of signal flare, or other signaling device? The birdwatcher called the bridge? What does that mean? Did she speak to the captain? Did another flight and rental car reservations crewmen take the call and ignore it? What about the coast guard that was emailed the information? If they were notified, why didn't they act on it?
My hat goes off to NCL....I feel very attached to NCL and I love to hear a story like this .. It makes me proud that I sail with her every chance I get. I feel safe when I disembark and I trust my Life with all the Captains and the Crew of NCL
Well! They finally got it right. Thanks to a sensible captain and cruise line. How great it is to read this story and know that six people are alive because of the caring of this cruise line/captain.
Big Deal, they were NOT in a Life and Death Situation, and, Since the Coast Guard sent the message to the Cruise Ship, they knew all was ok with the People on the Sail Boat, otherwise, who knows what ''LURKS'' in the waters...So, do not Blame the Captain or Cruise line, if they do not adhere to everyones Whims, when it comes to Boating...The Captain has more of a responsability towards ITS Passengers thank that of Not Knowing Who they maybe dealing flight and rental car reservations with...DO YOU PICK UP HITCH HICKER'S ???
You obviously have no idea about the "Rules of the Sea". It is the responsibility of any ship/Captain to come to the aid of a distressed vessel. Unless it would endanger the vessel to supply that aid. Things happen very fast in the open sea's. Some that transit should not do so but to refuse aid without reason is a crime.
You are confusing two different situations. "Big Deal,........"NOT in a Life and Death Situation." Any time a boat is adrift as sea without a rudder (do you know what a rudder is?), it is a life and death situation. There is a law of the sea that any boat in distress must be given assistance. It is a crime not to come to the assistance of a boat in distress.
My comments above were about the assistance the Norweigan ship gave to the subject boat in today's story. I compared the Norweigan cruise line and Captain, who changed course to assist a boat in distress to the Prncesss cruise ship ignoring a fishing boat adrift flight and rental car reservations with three or four people flight and rental car reservations on board even when the Princess cruise ship was in sight of the fishing boat. It was a life and death situation because all of the men on board the fishing boat died except one. They were without food a
