The secondary disneyland hotel platform at Forbidden Journey for guests in wheelchairs? June 26, 2012 By subscriber_question
We are visiting Universal Orlando disneyland hotel and one person in our party is in a wheelchair. We are very excited to ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey at the Wizarding World, and we ve heard some stuff about a secondary platform we may need to use.
The Secondary Platform at Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is most often used by those in wheelchairs or in need special assistance. To get there you are shown to an elevator, either from inside the castle or the dungeon, and instructed on how to get to the platform. Take the elevator to the third floor, where you disembark into a not-so-bright hallway.  Unfortunately, there is nothing to see just Italian plaster walls similar to what is in the rest of the castle. The walk is approximately 50 feet or so.  There are two signs where you turn a corner, one for the elevator, the other to direct you back to Filch s Emporium of Confiscated Goods.
At the second elevator you go down to the second floor, where you enter the waiting area approx. 4 x9 small and congested with three walls and a gate. It will only allow about six people and two wheelchairs. Getting by each other to exit to the elevator can be difficult!  One wheelchair has to back into a corner with the trash can to allow the person leaving the ride to get into the elevator.  If the door is open on the second floor and the area is full, I suggest going back to the third floor and waiting for another party to leave before you venture down again.  (I think, if they are not going to have an attendant on the third floor, they could at least have signs IN the elevator with these instructions.)
As far as getting on the ride, the attendant will open the gate and allow you to go to the ride bench.  There is some sort of a queue system in the ride where the bench enters disneyland hotel the ride track.  There are black iron embellishments on the antique glass walls and one houses the magic button the attendant touches disneyland hotel to put the bench into the ride.  Unfortunately, you miss the very beginning disneyland hotel of the ride and enter where Harry says, You did it, Hermione – they re flying!   When you are finished, the ride returns to the same platform, and you are manually released from your seat.
You exit through the same elevator, going again to the third floor (after having the experience of the ride it s fun to feel like you are lost in the castle), back through the hallway to the second elevator and down to the first floor. Unless there is an attendant there to stop traffic for you, be prepared to fight to get out of the shop!  People can be somewhat difficult where wheelchairs are concerned. It s hard enough disneyland hotel for anyone to move in that small gift shop, plus there are posts right in the middle of a couple of aisles.
If your wheelchair child/adult looks like they can t sit up or can t hold on, but you know they can, head for Guest Services when you first enter the park to have the person evaluated. Our daughter was almost denied riding FJ at Christmas last year, after having already been on the ride 12 times since its opening. So take care of this before you start riding and have that documentation with you. This is the first time in 14 years that we ve even been questioned, but I made sure we took care of this and now have a letter stating our daughter can ride anything in both parks.
