An excerpt from The Legend of the Cowfish breaks down the evolution of this unique restaurant concep

Quick refresher: It has been rumored for several months that CityWalk s Starbucks, currently positioned on the second floor (over the new Red Oven), would be moving to the recently gutted downtown disney hotel map Endangered Species store on the first floor (right next to Red Oven). For a visual aid, the first photo is Starbucks in its current location, and the second photo is the gutted Endangered Species.
A reliable source has told us that a North Carolina restaurant called Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar will be Universal CityWalk s newest occupant. As with any rumor, this is not confirmed by Universal and can t be absolutely guaranteed. Nevertheless, should this one come true, CityWalk will be adding this to its menus:
An excerpt from The Legend of the Cowfish breaks down the evolution of this unique restaurant concept, and simplifies it to its roots. The Cowfish is a one-of-a-kind dining experience, thriving on its ability to fuse two niche products seamlessly on the same menu. Certainly unusual, absolutely great! The first and only Sushi Burger Bar !
The Cowfish brings to the world the first restaurant focusing on offering both the best sushi AND the best burger in town. Fresh, innovative and delicious, the sushi segment of the menu is powered by the success downtown disney hotel map of sister company, eeZ Fusion Sushi. All natural, creative and hearty, the burgers entice with fresh, never frozen, ingredients and bold flavors. Spiked hand-spun milkshakes, premium sakes, craft beers, wine and 10oz exotic martinis round out a huge bar menu that is sure to please. The Cowfish aims to offer something for the entire family. Scrumptious appetizers for sharing, hot soups and entree-sized salads, homemade downtown disney hotel map desserts and a fun kid s menu are joined by our signature downtown disney hotel map creations that we call Burgushi ! A cutting edge fusion of burger and sushi, burgushi items include sushi rolls created using burger components, and pick-up style sandwiches created using sushi components. If you can t make up your mind, try a bento box to sample a mini-burger along with your choice of sushi roll and three tasty side items!
Remember that big Disney announcement from last month, where the company finally started to tease just what will be in store with Pandora: The World of Avatar? Well, it looks like we're now starting to get some specifics on just what, exactly, will be involved with Animal Kingdom's first expansion.
downtown disney hotel map The centerpiece of the area will be the E-ticket, Soarin'-esque flight simulator, which will perch guests on the back of a Banshee. The general assumption amongst the various theme park connoisseurs was that it truly would be a Soarin' clone, but the latest intel from Joe Rhode, the lead Imagineer on the project, is that it'll actually be the next-generation version of that ride: not only will it have more in common with, say, Universal's signature downtown disney hotel map Harry Potter attractions downtown disney hotel map (Forbidden Journey and the forthcoming Gringotts coaster ), providing more in the way of thrills and spills, it'll also feature a brand-new ride vehicle; rather than Soarin's tried-and-true bench-style seats, the site speculates that riders will be flipped over onto their bellies, much like SeaWorld's Manta . Imagineering is still debating whether downtown disney hotel map they'll go 3D or not.
Top 5 goes on to confirm the general layout of Pandora: downtown disney hotel map an area teeming with lush, sometimes-interactive foliage that is crisscrossed downtown disney hotel map with the ruins of a previous downtown disney hotel map human base camp. The entry point will be themed as a landing station, replete with a quick-service restaurant styled as an army base mess hall and sidewalks that light up with electronic ripple lighting effects (for now – the site notes that they're actually "massive, touch screen-style sidewalks" that can be programmed with anything Disney wants on them, like the ones currently being deployed in Downtown Disney for the holiday season). Walking trails lead throughout the local flora and fauna, and interactive animal encounters will be featured, as well, as both part of a walk-through attraction (the third for the land, for those of you playing along at home, in addition to the D-ticket boat ride) and as a series of character meet-n-greets throughout the day.
And what about those floating mountains? The website doesn't have much to say about them, except that they'll be the icon of the new land – though they won't out-shine the park's major weenie, downtown disney hotel map the Tree of Life – and that they're set to play a "prominent role." As of right now, it seems like the Imagineers are thinking downtown disney hotel map of hiding one of the two major rides' show buildings in them.
Oh, lest you become downtown disney hotel map too excited for all this wondrous theming, Central Florida Top 5 has one last Pandora detail for you: the area's 2017 release date is just for its first phase . There is no word on what, exactly, this will entail, or how many further phases Avatar Land will consist of.
Finally, the site has some brief tidbits on the other major component of Disney's Avatar announcement: Animal Kingdom's new nighttime operating hours and after-dark entertainment. According to its sources, WET, which designed the Bellagio's fountains in Las Vegas, downtown disney hotel map and none other than Cirque du Soleil are involved with the new after-hours show, which, Top 5's pretty sure, will utilize the new "Glow with the Show" ears . The Tree of Life itself looks to be getting in on the action, with a "top-to-bottom stripping and updating" of all of its branches – rumor has it that they've begun to already fall out, which has the Imagineers understandably concerned – replacing them with the Avatar -esque bioluminescent leaves/limbs.
Part of this unprecedented attendance and souvenir-splurging level can generally be attributed to the country's growing fascination with, and spending on, Halloween, which reached $7.6 billion this year (with $1.4 billion going to adult costumes alone!). But both analysts and Universal itself are quite aware of the real money-driver in this equation: licensed intellectual downtown disney hotel map properties.
Licenses constituted over half of this year's haunted house lineup at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida, downtown disney hotel map relying on such properties as The Walking Dead , Evil Dead , Black Sabbath, and Resident Evil . With more money being invested in recognizable brands – which includes, in most cases, the creators of those brands assisting in the design downtown disney hotel map and execution of the mazes – more money is, in turn, being spent by consumers who are eager to go visit (and be scared by) the worlds and characters they've already grown to love.
The writing on the wall? Expect this trend to continue, starting with next year's event and, more than likely, exponentially increasing in the years thereafter. For Orlando specifically, roughly 52% of the haunts were IPs this year; for 2014, expect that number to jump to at least 60%. Even the original haunted houses are starting downtown disney hotel map to become franchises of their own: La Llorona is tagged with the header "Urban Legends," which Universal hopes to become a brand all its own in future years, and Havoc 2: Derailed is, obviously, a sequel to a previous maze. (Which isn't to mention the fact that La Llorona was also originally a Hollywood attraction that got shipped across the country, providing another wrinkle counting against its originality factor.)
Whether such a development does, indeed, make you excited or make you repulsed, there's a fascination to HHN that runs more deeply than what horror creatures are slapped on its veneer – it extends to its very structure, to its body and bones. How does Universal Creative (in consultation with all those Hollywood and videogame producers) lay out the maze, time the scares, and construct downtown disney hotel map the atmosphere that you'll pee your pants in?
Now that you've got your behind-the-scenes peek, get back under your bed and start counting down the days until HHN 24. Don't worry – we'll be here holding your hand, to keep away the coming scares… of an all-licensed Halloween lineup.
Yesterday Dan took his weekly tour of Universal Orlando, where, upon entering CityWalk, he was surprised to see that Red Oven Pizza Bakery the venue that replaced the Pastamore Marketplace was serving food.
As you can see in the video, the food was going to construction workers and team members, not to guests yet. But this is a sure sign that the new quick-service restaurant will be opening to the public downtown disney hotel map very soon.
If this is the first time you re reading about this development, here s the description of Red Oven as provided by Universal: downtown disney hotel map Take a quick trip to Italy for authentic, artisan pizza made fresh, while you wait at Red Oven Pizza Bakery. downtown disney hotel map Savor the crackle of the perfect crust, market-fresh downtown disney hotel map toppings, and pure buffalo mozzarella. This is real pizza, the way Italy intended. Readers will note that the full-service portion of Pastamore is still open for business for now.
In other dining news, Dan was able to study the new Universal Dining Plan Quick Service (UDP-QS) in closer downtown disney hotel map detail yesterday. Although we still think the name is awful, it seems like the program may be a better deal than we reported in our first look two weeks ago.
Dan will be providing more analysis of the program later, but for now we can sum up our new findings: if planned correctly, the UDP-QS can be a strikingly good deal, lowering your dining costs by 30 percent. The key is that you have to find the more expensive items served at Universal s quick-service restaurants to realize the biggest savings (and, of course, you have to want to eat those items too).
As I mentioned before, Dan will provide further analysis of the program soon. For now, the good news is that the UDP-QS, while not offering the unlimited meals of the classic Meal Deal plan, can still be a money-saver.
That s the good news. Now the bad news. Universal s Photo Connect Star Card Package , truly one of the best deals available in Orlando s theme parks, lost a little bit of luster this week. In very simple terms, the Star Card Package allows Universal guests to collect all of their in-park and ride photos on

Hi Sicorra, thanks! We hadn t been to Universal since my son s Make-A-Wish trip five years prior. It was great fun revisiting the park and watching him now experience it as a healthy teen instead of a sick kid. And they ve since added the Harry Potter section so it was even better. I m not a big theme park fan (kind of crowd-aphobic), but going off-season as we did, it was really lots of fun. I d even consider going back we are considering taking up this Universal/Give Kids The World offer as my son now wants to go back and volunteer there.

I am looking to start building a catamaran in the next couple of years and am considering the Mark Prescott designs. We intend to use it for blue water cruising and require all the attributes for this of course. We are definitely not looking for a floating palace, we live simply and intend continuing to do so.
An associated question is regarding the daggerboards. I read so many comments on problems with them for cruising with buildup of barnacles broadway discount show tickets etc. Is this a real problem or are there simple processes to use to avoid this issue?
Great boats, really broadway discount show tickets good, wonderful performance and quite good cruise-ability. A mate has one, wins open ocean races and then loads the family up at the race finish and goes cruising for a few weeks. I can put you in touch with him if you like.
Mark has an impressive amount of experience and knowledge. He also does individual designs broadway discount show tickets to meet particular desires. Making contact with him will answer many of your questions in an open, honest manner.

I saw a home made version of what you speak of a few weeks ago. It was a Flying Fifteen hull converted to a Tri with two Hobie 14 or 16 hulls with a cabin built on top of the Flying Fifteen hull . It was an interesting contraption, only a little bit ugly due to the need to have the cabin up reasonably broadway discount show tickets high in order to get a decent usable interior space.

We knew the weather was going to turn for the worse and we did not want to be stuck on Catalina, so

Blog of our Trawler Cruising cheap rental cars in new zealand Adventures: After our adventures in the Pacific Northwest and Canada, we are once again traveling in our 42' Nova Sundeck, this time returning home to San Francisco from Mexico and the Sea of Cortez 2009-2010.
We spent from March 12th to March19th exploring the Island of Santa Catalina . The weather was decent for this early in the year. Seas were calm, there was little to no wind and the temperature was in the high 60"s to low 70's with full sunshine. cheap rental cars in new zealand We moored out first in Avalon, which is simply beautiful. While we were walking the beach walk, we heard someone calling cheap rental cars in new zealand Alexus' name. We ran into Darcy and Bob who were there on their beautiful 55 Nordhavn " Enterprise ". We had a great time with them visiting both boats for Happy Hour . We walked all over the island and took a couple cheap rental cars in new zealand of the tours of the local area and one up to the airport on Catalina. While we were there, I caught Mackerel, Whitefish and a sma ll halibut we had to release.
After spending about five days in Avalon, we made our way to the Isthmus Cove. We were one of about four boats in a cove that can handle 100+ boats. We took the dinghy to shore and walked about of a mile over to Cat Harbor on the ocean facing side. It was a little blustery on the ocean side. We spent two days at Isthmus Cove and then moved to Emerald Cove.
In Emerald Cove we were the only boat. The water was u nbelievably clear. cheap rental cars in new zealand From the boat I saw the orange Garibaldi, full size Halibut, a huge Eagle Ray, a couple of Sting Rays and a few Sand Bass. Because the water was so clear and the weather decent, Alexus put on her wet suit and did some snorkeling in and around the kelp forest. I followed her in the dinghy just to make me feel better and not worry about her. She was more than fine as she is a Master Scuba Diver and Divemaster.
We knew the weather was going to turn for the worse and we did not want to be stuck on Catalina, so we left on March 20 th to head for Marina Del Rey and the California Yacht Club. We had stayed with the Club on our way south and wanted to stay with them again on our way back north.
Hello and welcome to our trip blog. We have traveled in our 42' Nova Sundeck, NuMoon, from San Francisco (Alameda) up through the San Juan Islands of WA, the Gulf Islands of Canada, on up to Princess Louisa Inlet, Desolation Sound, Puget Sound, WA. and back to San Francisco. We left Nov. 8th, 2008 and cruised all of Southern California, Ensenada Mexico and the Channel cheap rental cars in new zealand Islands and returned north to San Francisco. On Oct. 15, 2009 we left Alameda again and headed to San Diego to Join FUBAR on to the Sea of Cortez and voyaged back to San Francisco arriving on June 10th, 2010. Now we enjoy boating the bay and delta until our next adventure.

The Groove Cruise’s fully chartered Los Angeles voyage is less than a month away.  Are you prepared

The Groove Cruise's fully chartered Los Angeles voyage is less than a month away.  Are you prepared to party with 2,000 of your newest and closest friends?  Most likely not, but that's OK.  We at Rabbits Black got you covered.  Now there are some surprises and things we just can't tell you yet- you have to experience them for yourself aboard the world's largest dance music festival on water. anchorage alaska auto rental companies But we can tell you ten things to expect from Groove Cruise LA 2013.  Hit the jump to find out what you got yourself into!
The last time Markus Schulz was in Los Angeles performing, he played an 8 hour set that lasted until 9 AM at the Avalon.  To say Markus has a special place in his heart for LA is an understatement- his 2013 compilation album honored the City of Angels and he played his New Years Eve set here last year.  Anytime Markus comes to the West Coast, anchorage alaska auto rental companies it's a big deal and usually anchorage alaska auto rental companies a long night.  With confirmation that his Friday night Bon Voyage set is going to be of the extended variety, there's no doubt the Groove Cruise is going to witness one of those now classic Markus Schulz deep into the night experiences.  This rabbit hole might still be open when the sun rises over Catalina.
There's something about being on a cruise ship in the Pacific Ocean that really brings people together.  That means once the ship sets sail, there's no getting anchorage alaska auto rental companies off until you get to port the next morning.  It's not like the artists are going to helicopter off after their done!  The Groove Cruise is a unique experience because the artists are there to have fun with you!  Artists like Donald Glaude and The EC Twins keep coming back to perform every year- there's a reason for that.  It's not uncommon anchorage alaska auto rental companies for DJs to finish a set and then head over to the bar, or drop by the pool while a fellow artist is doing their thing on the decks.  Where else can you party with the actual DJs?!
The Groove Cruise anchorage alaska auto rental companies might be the largest floating dance music festival in the world, but that doesn't mean it's just one big party.  The Groove Cruise is actually made up of different stages and venues on the ship, and when the party festivities hit shore there's still going to be options for you to choose from.  A lot of these parties are themed, and they range from the Wild Wild West to Tutus Ties.  If you got a good collection of costumes at home, The Groove Cruise is the place to bust them out.  People anchorage alaska auto rental companies are going to be going all out in theme, so don't be afraid to let loose!
On most cruises you stay pretty dry.  Your lucky if you even have a pool on your ship.  And then there's the Groove Cruise, which might be the antithesis of "most cruises".  Not only does the Groove Cruise take you to Catalina Island and Ensenda for two massive beach parties, but the ship has it's own Water Park!  Read that one more time out loud… water park.  You'll have every opportunity to get wet and have fun in the ocean or pool.  We suggest bringing 3 versions of swim attire… at least.
There's a lot of things about Groove Cruise LA that pretty much guarantees that you are going to be up until the sunrise at least once on this trip.  First, did we mention Markus Schulz is playing an extended set?  Second, there are actual sunrise afterhour parties scheduled on-board the cruise liner.  Sunrise sets were made famous on the island of Ibiza, but the Groove Cruise is setting out to show the world how California parties until the early morning too.  We think we can do a pretty good job of it too, so expect the sunrise parties to be heavily attended.  The Groove Cruise is making a name for the California EDM scene and we think your up for the challenge.  Our bars might close at 2 AM, but the Groove Cruise never closes.

As our luggage was brought to our room, we enjoyed a brief tour of the mansion.  There is a stunning

This 1921 Georgian Colonial (the Wrigley Mansion) is the former home of  chewing gum magnate William Wrigley, Jr. The home sits 350 feet above the town and harbor on Mt. Ada (named after his wife, Ada), and was designed to catch the first sunlight in the morning and the last rays at sunset.
After Mrs. Wrigley s death, the home eventually became  The Inn on Mt. Ada , and for the past successive 18 years has enjoyed a Mobil 4-Star last minute weekend getaway travel package rating as well as a handful of other notable distinctions.  With only six rooms available, the Inn is highly sought after, requiring reservations well in advance of your stay.
We learned that we would be staying in The Queen s Aviary , Mrs. Wrigley s bedroom and sitting room.  As you ll see in the video below, the room has been impeccably maintained and offered us beautiful views of the harbor and ocean.  Further, we enjoyed a vintage bathroom, a large walk-in closet, and a romantic fireplace.
As our luggage was brought to our room, we enjoyed a brief tour of the mansion.  There is a stunningly beautiful sun porch overlooking the harbor, a large deck wrapping the house; a very large living room with a grand piano and fireplace, a beautiful dining room with stunning chandeliers, and a guest kitchen stocked with goodies, wine, beer, water, and even a freezer stocked with ice cream!
This location has been serving Catalina last minute weekend getaway travel package Island guests for over thirty years.  However, when the Aurora moved in, the hotel was remodeled giving the property the hospitality last minute weekend getaway travel package of a bed and breakfast inn with the ambiance of a metropolitan boutique hotel.

Continuing our gastronomical journey we moved into our entrées.  Carol went for the Ahi Tuna Burger, last minute weekend getaway travel package and while I was tempted to try a famous Catalina Island Buffalo Burger (not local buffalos), I opted instead last minute weekend getaway travel package for the day s Fresh Catch Sand Dabs.  Carol s burger was accompanied by fried green beens, while my Sand Dabs were pan-fried with a beurre blanc sauce.  YUM!
Although we didn t ask for it, out came our proud and smiling waiter with Deep Fried Oreo Cookies for dessert.  Now, I must confess, deep-fried Oreo cookies does not sound appealing to me.  However, you haven t lived until you tasted a hot, melty, Oreo cookie with a dash of vanilla ice cream. Holy Fried Delight last minute weekend getaway travel package Batman!  That was good!

Then I got off the bus and looked down from the first platform, perched on the rim of Descanso Canyon. All along the railing were informative placards that described Catalina's flora and fauna, as well as interesting facts about the island's history.
A rush of wind caught me as I glided down the cable. The zing of the trolley moving along the wire above my head was the only sound, except for my eventual laughter as I realized this was the ride of a lifetime.

Some time ago I posted here with my views on the suitability of spade rudders for offshore cruising. Having lost a spade rudder that looked to be in A1 condition, naturally my thoughts at the time were coloured by that disaster. Despite the fact that I had up until that time owned three yachts that had spade rudders, had covered tens of thousands of miles aboard them, and but for a bad case of metal fatigue might never have had a concern about their use, my immediate blue collar comedy tour rides again buy reaction was to rule out having one on our next boat.
But I learned a lot at the time as we fabricated a new rudder blue collar comedy tour rides again buy from scratch; not least in terms of how difficult—and expensive—it can be to do it right. And since then I ve put my habit of being an inveterate noser-around in boatyards to good use looking at examples of spade rudders both good and bad, to balance against the understandable antipathy caused by our loss. As a result of those examples and time for reflection I ve altered my views in some regards—but not all.
One thing I have noticed blue collar comedy tour rides again buy is that very few owners include removal blue collar comedy tour rides again buy of a spade rudder within their maintenance schedule, which I think is fundamentally wrong, especially for any yacht intended to make extended voyages offshore. We removed our rudder every other year on our working boat, to examine and service it, usually as soon as we lifted the boat out, as it was impossible to do so with the boat in a cradle (otherwise we'd have had to dig a very deep hole), then replaced it at re-launch. Here's why:
It's virtually impossible to stop water getting into a conventionally fabricated (stainless stock/GRP shell) spade rudder. blue collar comedy tour rides again buy Getting the water out isn t easy either, and if left inside the shell over the winter may combine with other internal chemicals or pollutants in an anaerobic atmosphere and exacerbate blue collar comedy tour rides again buy internal corrosion. Our rudder was huge (and heavy!) and so took some handling, but we would turn it upside down, then tie it against a wall to allow the water to drain thoroughly over the winter. Another blue collar comedy tour rides again buy option I ve seen employed is drilling and tapping the bottom of the shell to accept a nylon drain plug, capped with Sikaflex. This can then be removed in winter to allow the shell to drain.
blue collar comedy tour rides again buy I ve often seen owners 'examine' the state of the bearings and seals by just waggling the rudder around. However, it s very difficult to ascertain the true amount of wear in the bearings in this way, especially with the steering system (rod or wire) attached. Detach everything from the quadrant and you may find a very different result.
Most standard blue collar comedy tour rides again buy rudder bearings are made of a hard plastic blue collar comedy tour rides again buy material such as Ertalon or Polyacetal. These take a real pasting, and so will wear over time, and if the bearing wall is not thick enough can crack, especially if there is any corrosion present. Inspection is the only way to properly assess their condition and, if they're OK, proper cleaning of them (they should be kept free from grease) will help prolong their life.
Removal of the rudder also allows the bearing surfaces of the stock to be examined for corrosion. It will also allow for a thorough inspection of the shell from all angles, where any cracking or crazing can be assessed and appropriate remedial action taken.
Whether your stock has a stuffing box or O-rings (both now fallen from favour) or simply blue collar comedy tour rides again buy employs a lip seal, sooner or later it will need servicing or replacing, especially if there is any play in the bearings. And it's not uncommon to find that the lip seal installed is not suitable for marine use (with a mild steel spring) and so won't last any time at all. As it's virtually impossible to remove and replace these lip seals intact (they don't cost much anyway) with the rudder in place, it makes sense to source the correct grade of seal in advance and replace it when you ve got the rudder blue collar comedy tour rides again buy out (to achieve the best seal with lip seals a pair should be used). Or, if your rudder installation will allow it, consider fitting a specially designed gaiter . Worn or loose fitting lip seals or O-rings are a common source of leaks, especially blue collar comedy tour rides again buy in heavy weather, so it makes sense to replace them on a regular basis.
I prefer one piece/material construction, which offers the best chance of structural and watertight integrity. As Matt so eloquently explained, carbon construction is now becoming more cost effective and seems to me to be the way to go for the future with GRP boats and, equally, one piece aluminium or steel makes most sense for hulls in those materials.
In production boats stainless steel stocks are generally being replaced by aluminium, which, if properly designed and fabricated, and most importantly properly isolated against electrolysis, offers many advantages in terms of weight and cost. But I ve seen plenty of cases of corrosion of these stocks, including internally, and believe blue collar comedy tour rides again buy that there's even more reason to remove and inspect blue collar comedy tour rides again buy them regularly as a result.
I'll bet that most of us have heard of at least one sail drive being eaten by electrolysis in recent years—I ve seen quite a few—but no-one seems to consider that if the sail drive has been eaten, what's happening to the rudder stock? Regular inspection of the exposed blue collar comedy tour rides again buy shaft at the hull/stock position should be a must—oh, and don't antifoul the stock with a conventional copper based antifoulant
Whilst I still prefer the strength and security that a skeg offers, I accept that a properly blue collar comedy tour rides again buy designed and constructed spade rudder can be a viable choice, but it must have some form of protection ahead of it in the form of a keel or prop skeg to reduce the risk of collision damage. One of the reasons I am not a fan of twin rudders is that this is virtually impossible to achieve with this configuration.

I too like the idea of a transom hung rudder, for all the reasons you state. The only problem is that I just can t come up with an elegant way for said rudder and a pendulum-servo self steering gear the most powerful and easiest to use type to coexist.
The vane gear can usually be mounted outboard of the rudder, blue collar comedy tour rides again buy and if the rudder is mounted in a cut-out as Richard suggests blue collar comedy tour rides again buy shouldn t be too far outboard or inelegant. Make the mountings simple and/or quick release blue collar comedy tour rides again buy a la Windpilot, and it s not going to be too vulnerable in harbour either.
That makes sense, blue collar comedy tour rides again buy although I think the gear would be a more vulnerable to harbour damage, ditto the outboard hung rudder. But then having spent years in industrial and fishing harbours where the other users are not too worried blue collar comedy tour rides again buy about a bit of a bump , I m probably blue collar comedy tour rides again buy being paranoid.
blue collar comedy tour rides again buy I m afraid I didn t explain my thoughts very well. What I m suggesting is that the Windpilot can be very quickly removed from the transom (with a little bit of forward planning), so that it is safe from damage in harbour. Ours takes 10 minutes max to remove or re-install, and we now do so whenever were at rest in a position where the gear is vulnerable (and against theft in boatyards!).
Hi John, as an alternative have you considered a trim tab type self steering system? This would work well with an outboard blue collar comedy tour rides again buy rudder, using a hollow rudder stock for the trim tab s shaft. Whilst this system is not as powerful as a pendulum servo, given the AA40 is going to have a reasonably well balance hull shape, this lesser power should not be a problem
Yes, I did give some thought to a trim tab system, but in the end decided against it, for just the reason you mention: lower steering power. Keep in mind that I conceived the Adventure 40 as a buy-and-go boat for those new to offshore voyaging and I m pretty sure I m right in saying that it is way easier to get a good quality pendulum-servo gear to steer a boat well than a trim tab gear.
While I concede your very well argued points, Colin, I tend to agree with RDE in this case. Yes, a transom-hung, skeg-mounted rudder is problematic in terms of performance and drag, but we *are* speaking of cruisers, right? Five point five versus six knots SOG seems trivial when you consider one less hole below the waterline and the ability to repair or even replace a transom-hung rudder without a haulout.
blue collar comedy tour rides again buy I own a spade-rudder boat, but offshore, blue collar comedy tour rides again buy I would worry less with a transom-hung rudder with a sturdy tiller head should the ram pack it in OR should I wish to bypass the wheel steering in favour of a vane.
Up to about forty feet, so do I, and there clearly benefits in terms of cost and simplicity. As long as the rudder is properly balanced, personally I d prefer tiller steering up that size in any case, as I seldom blue collar comedy tour rides again buy take the wheel and leave the Windpilot to do the hard work. More room in the cockpit, simpler to hook up an autopilot or self-steering blue collar comedy tour rides again buy gear, too.
But above that size it s less of an option, in my view, and then it s a question of whether the designer and builder did their job right, and whether they used the best materials to ensure structural integrity and reliability.
I concur to a somewhat scary degree. Originally, for reasons of speed and stowage, I wanted a 45 footer in steel for offshore work. But the mechanical forces involved exceeded blue collar comedy tour rides again buy what I could reasonably expect my fit but height-challenged wife to handle in any kind of blow. And although I m nearly a foot taller and stronger, the tiller on the 40-footer is seven feet long and is indeed a handful if I m hand-steering in 25 knots (a worst-case scenario in which the AP, the vane and the hydraulics have failed).
So I agree that the desirable simplicity blue collar comedy tour rides again buy and sturdiness of the transom-hung rudder and (optional/emergency/windvane-driven) tiller does produce countering arguments at the 40 foot level. It s easier to pack smarter than it is to buy a boat you can t operate because it s beyond one s physical abilities. That s why I look a little askance at the 70-year-old retirees heading south in high-sided, flattish

Hi Midlifesailor, and thank you! I will go check out the website. I saw the 350 several years ago and disliked it then. The 355 seems like a much nicer boat. I wish they'd norwegian dawn passenger cruise reviews photos put that lovely table that folds from the four corners norwegian dawn passenger cruise reviews photos on the 375. If I had the $'s I'd go for the 4r5, so I have to be careful not to overlook the things on the 375 that just make it a compromise.
Someone told me that Catalina are no longer building norwegian dawn passenger cruise reviews photos 387's. That would be another option and certainly they are heavier. Though the newer styling of the 355, 375 and 445 is probably a sign of things to come. Perhaps I'm showing my ignorance but to me the move to lighter weights in the production norwegian dawn passenger cruise reviews photos boats has to impact norwegian dawn passenger cruise reviews photos on comfort at sea in choppy conditions. Ah well, these decisions are a great way to use up retirees' spare time I suppose.
I must say we really liked the 455 they had on display there.. lost of good ideas, more storage than most euro competitors, and an interesting garage/spare cabin/pantry/workshop etc area accessible from the cockpit as well as the cabin.
If you do buy a Catalina, norwegian dawn passenger cruise reviews photos be sure to join the association. The Technical norwegian dawn passenger cruise reviews photos guides and forums are worth their weight in gold. I've owned two 36's (divorce, long story ) and still think it's the best boat Catalina ever built. The 375 is it's replacement. I liked it when I checked it out. The head and forward berth are just about the same size as the 445, oddly. I was actually norwegian dawn passenger cruise reviews photos thinking of trading to one until they told me the price. After they got the paddles up to 400, I finally came to. So, I decided norwegian dawn passenger cruise reviews photos instead to take just the Sales Tax for a new 375 and completely refresh my 36. It didn't take half that much. I begged Deja Vu for forgiveness and promised never to stray again. However, there IS this really nice 42...........
Thanks to all for replies. The C36 forum had a huge amount of stuff I wasn't aware of. It all adds to the decision process. The suggestion that the 375 will be discontinued is quite disconcerting in terms of resale value.

What is "valor"?  It's a word we're all familiar with; in fact it's used in our ritual.  The Oxford English Dictionary defines it as "great courage broadway bed and breakfast inn in the face of danger, especially in battle."  In other words, it is the ability to keep moving forward even though the results of your actions broadway bed and breakfast inn could result in your own death.
Many of our brothers, particularly those who have served in the military or as policemen or firemen, have faced those situations.  In this column, I'll talk about two of them; men who exhibited uncommon courage at a time of great danger to themselves and thus will always bear the title Medal of Honor winner.
Other than those who have served in the armed forces, most of us know very little about the Medal of Honor why it's awarded and why its recipients are so revered.  The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest honor that a member of the military can receive.
Although termed "Congressional," it is now bestowed upon the recipient, or posthumously to his family, by the President of the United States.  At the ceremony, it is customary broadway bed and breakfast inn for the President, the Commander-in-Chief of our entire military, to salute the recipient first, broadway bed and breakfast inn rather than vice versa.  In addition, forevermore, the recipient when wearing the medal is saluted first by all military men and women no matter what rank they hold
So what does it take to be awarded a Medal of Honor?  First of all, it is awarded only to an individual who distinguished himself "conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity" – meaning bravery and fearlessness in an action involving conflict with an enemy.  In addition, he must have put his own life on the line and acted "above and beyond the call of duty."  It is this last phrase, "above and beyond the call of duty," that makes this medal so special.  It cannot broadway bed and breakfast inn be awarded to someone for having acted, no matter how heroically, under orders – he must have acted on his own accord and with utter disregard for his own life.
The first Medal of Honor was awarded during the Civil War.  At that time, they were awarded more liberally than they are today.  To date, over the 150 years they have been awarded, 3,469 have been issued – almost one-half of them during the Civil War.  Of the
During World War II, only 464 were awarded out of the over 16.3 million men who served.  Many of them have been awarded posthumously.  In fact, more than half of the men awarded the Medal since the start of World War II did not survive the action for which they were honored.   The medal is not restricted to U.S. citizens and at least 59 Canadians are Medal of Honor recipients.
Christian broadway bed and breakfast inn Schilt was born March 18, 1895 on a farm near Olney in Richland County, Ohio.  If ever a man was destined to fly, it was Schilt – unfortunately, planes hadn't been invented yet.  It wouldn't be until he was eight years old that the Wright brothers flew the first manned flight.  However, it's likely their success caught his attention as a young boy.
In September 1915, Schilt entered the department of civil engineering at Rose Polytechnic Institute (now Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology) broadway bed and breakfast inn in Terra Haute, Ind.  Athletically inclined, he was elected captain of the freshman basketball team.  He pledged our Beta Upsilon Chapter that fall and was initiated on February 21, 1916 as badge number 139.
However, his time at Beta Upsilon and Rose was limited because of the entry in April, 1917 of the United States into World War I.  Two months later, in June, 1917, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he continued to serve for the next 40 years rising from buck private to the rank of four-star broadway bed and breakfast inn general.
After enlisting, he went through the same basic training as other recruits, all hoping to join the action in Europe as soon as possible.  For Schilt, the Marine Corps decided his talents were better used elsewhere broadway bed and breakfast inn and he was assigned to the first American air unit of any service sent overseas – to the Azores Islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.  There, his unit, a seaplane squadron, was assigned the task of anti-submarine patrols and he served as a machine gunner on the planes.
His time in the air during these patrols, as well as his exceptional mechanical skills, convinced him that piloting planes would be a lot more interesting than just riding in them.  So, at the end of the war, he decided to stick around with the hope of being allowed to attend pilot training. He was accepted and by June 1919, he had earned the designation "aviator," eligible for "duty involving broadway bed and breakfast inn actual flying in aircraft, including dirigibles, balloons and airplanes."
In Caribbean deployments he honed his skills until he was considered one of the top pilots in the Corps.  His timing was fortuitous because the 1920's were the heyday of air speed races and the armed services participated in them as well – in fact, entry was encouraged.  Flying was still very young at the time and few people had experienced broadway bed and breakfast inn it as passengers.  Thus, spectators lined up to watch the amazing stunts and speeds of these still relatively broadway bed and breakfast inn new inventions.   As plane designs and speeds improved, the public could not get enough of watching them and the men and women who flew them.
Due to his exceptional flying broadway bed and breakfast inn skills, during the period 1923-1927, Schilt flew in most of the national air races and usually was among the top finishers.  In 1925, as part of the Pulitzer Race of that year, he finished second to another Sigma Nu, the great Army flyer Lieutenant Earnest broadway bed and breakfast inn Harmon (Bethany). When not racing, Schilt was winning trophies in aerial bombing competitions and serving as a test pilot for new aircraft. broadway bed and breakfast inn Schilt at the time was considered among the top flyers broadway bed and breakfast inn in the country along with Charles Lindbergh, Eddie Rickenbacker and Jimmy Doolittle.
His rendezvous with destiny occurred in 1928 in a small village, with the name Quilali, in the mountain jungles of Nicaragua.  In the late 1920's, Nicaragua, an important strategic Central broadway bed and breakfast inn American country, had recently been engaged in a civil war between broadway bed and breakfast inn the rebel Sandinistas and the government.  The U.S. brokered a peace between the warring parties with U.S. Marines serving as guarantors of the peace.  However, in 1927 the rebels attacked the Marines and the government forces in bloody engagements throughout the country.
broadway bed and breakfast inn On January 3, 1928, a large force of rebels ambushed a Marine broadway bed and breakfast inn patrol in Quilali.  Heavily outnumbering U.S. forces, they pinned the Marines into the tiny mountain village, encircling them in the jungle.  There was no escape route and they were running low on food and water.  In addition, they sustained heavy casualties that needed medical attention.  Staying put meant the troops would eventually be whittled down through well placed shots or starvation. The only way of getting medical attention to the wounded and supplies for the troops was via air.
The Marines sent a signal requesting aerial bombardment broadway bed and breakfast inn of the rebels and a plane to bring supplies broadway bed and breakfast inn and remove the wounded.  However, no landing strip was anywhere near the village.  With no place to land, it was an almost impossible request.  The men, while still under siege and under the cover of darkness, set about building a landing strip on the small dirt road that ran through the village.  Over three days they cleared the houses on one side of the street to make it wide enough for a plane – however, it still wasn't long enough.  At one end of the dirt road was the jungle broadway bed and breakfast inn and at the other a sheer drop into the valley below.
To further complicate the situation, the seaplane (O2U-1 Corsair) used by the Marines required modifications broadway bed and breakfast inn to replace the landing pontoons with wheels from a different plane – meaning it wouldn't have brakes to slow it down on landing.  The difficulty broadway bed and breakfast inn of the task would not be made any easier by hostile fire on landings and takeoffs, steep mountains on either side, low-hanging clouds and tricky air currents.
Due to the lack of brakes and the short landing strip, each landing required Marines on the ground to rush the aircraft and grab the wings to slow it down before it plunged over the cliff.  In addition, takeoffs were just as spectacular with four Marines hanging onto the wings while Schilt raced the motor to allow for maximum speed during takeoff to compensate for the short takeoff strip.
Over a three-day period, broadway bed and breakfast inn at the risk of his own life during every flight, he made ten flights into and out of the village under constant enemy fire and almost impossible conditions. Ultimately he evacuated broadway bed and breakfast inn eighteen wounded Marines and delivered 1,400 pounds of food and medical supplies.
broadway bed and breakfast inn In recognition of his heroism, on April 5, 1928, Lieutenant Christian F. Schilt broadway bed and breakfast inn received his Medal of Honor from President Calvin Coolidge at the White House.  It was the first time a Medal of Honor recipient was awarded the medal personally by the president at the White House and set the tradition from thenceforth.
Brother Schilt would continue broadway bed and breakfast inn to serve in the Marines until his retirement in 1957 a career of over 40 years.  In addition to his service in World War I and Nicaragua, he also served broadway bed and breakfast inn in World War II and the Korean broadway bed and breakfast inn conflict.  In addition to the Medal of Honor, he earned 19 more medals over his illustrious career including the Distinguished Service Medal, broadway bed and breakfast inn the Legion of Merit with combat "V" (for heroism), the Distinguished Flying Cross, a Bronze Star with combat "V" and five Air Medals making him possibly the most decorated Sigma Nu in our history.
Nathan Gordon was born on September 4, 1916 in Morrilton, Arkansas, the son of a distinguished trial lawyer.  After graduation from high school, broadway bed and breakfast inn he attended a community college, Arkansas Poly.  A natural athlete, he starred in football (as end) and baseball (at third base) and was named to the all-state team in both sports.
Gordon transferred to the University of Arkansas in the spring of 1936 when offered a football scholarship. broadway bed and breakfast inn He was a key player for the Razorbacks during the 1936 (their first Southwest Conference Championship) and 1937 seasons.  On May 7, 1938 h

Hi Keith... There is no "answer" to your question--just a lot of opinions. Most of them have to do w

I've researched this subject and haven't found a very satisfactory answer. I've cruised when was the los angeles lakers organization established mine across the Sea of Cortez and down Conception Bay and back to San Carlos, that's about 120 miles each way. I've taken a 25 swing keel island hopping across the Sea of Cortez along the Midriff Islands, spending a night 50 miles from mainland at Island Matir. I've heard about Catalina 25s that went down the intercostal and to the Bahamas and back. We've been to Lake Powell with ours and it handled fine. Have you heard about voyages in our sailboats of longer duration or distance. I aim to cruise eventually from San Carlos to La Paz, roughly 300 miles. I know it could be done, especially in smaller hops.
I have taken mine from Cape Coral to Key West and back in April of this year. We had no problems and felt safe and comfortable. We do watch the weather reports very closely. It was a very nice trip and plan to do it again next year. (I do know that our C25 was the smallest boat at the Key West Marina that particular week)
The most serious distance racer/cruiser I've known here (and sailed a little with) is Jim Baumgart (User ID JimB517 ), our past commodore, who did ocean races and cruises out of Mission Bay in San Diego. He now owns and races a Pearson Flyer--got tired of missing the parties at the end of distance ocean races on his C-25. He might hold the C-25 record for miles under the keel on the ocean. You can look up his user name and e-mail him--I suspect he'll give you some good suggestions. Good guy.

Keithsinger - When you plan a trip along the lines you described, how do you figure on the following: 1. Fuel - I reckon I can motor 2-3 hours per gallon. How many gallons of gas do you have capacity for and typically carry? 2. Provisions - fresh produce, meats only keep so long. Canned items, dried fruits and veggies and dry goods keep longer. Do you have a typical checklist or are you opportunistic 3. Storage - you've when was the los angeles lakers organization established got to exploit every square inch. Any tricks when was the los angeles lakers organization established of the trade to share? 4. Essentials - we've reviewed this countless times on the forum, when was the los angeles lakers organization established but any long distance gizmos would be interesting... when was the los angeles lakers organization established Any other items?
Frankly, I thought this thread would garner more interest. I can see that long distance cruising is not of enormous interest when was the los angeles lakers organization established among Catalina 25 owners. When I speak of distance, when was the los angeles lakers organization established I'm not generally referring to point to point passages. I think our sailboats can do long ocean passages in moderate weather, but a 300 mile passage in our boats would be arduous. Something like two days and nights I would think. I've spent more than one night on the sea in choppy conditions on a Catalina 25. Not so fun, though adventurous as heck. No, the kind of distance I'm talking about is cruising 20-30 miles a day for a month or so. One could cover a few thousand miles this way, anchoring or staying at marinas at night. Down the intercostal and across to the Bahamas, down to South America, when was the los angeles lakers organization established that sort of thing. Do I think about taking a Catalina 25 across oceans. Not really. I've got a two year old and another on the way and if i can get a few week-long sailing trips a year I'm lucky. We know it has been done in smaller boats. If a montgomery 17 can cross an ocean, so can a Catalina 25. If its been done in a Catalina 25, I'd like to know. But if someone has gone far cruising a Catalina 25 without long passage-making, when was the los angeles lakers organization established I'd be interested in that too. 29 gallons in answer to one of the gentleman's when was the los angeles lakers organization established questions. Still not enough to get from San Carlos to La Paz in one motor run. Maybe by motorsailing and definitely by hopping across and then cruising when was the los angeles lakers organization established south 20 miles a day, anchoring someplace interesting at nights, stopping for gas and provisions as needed.
I get your drift. Wow, "gentleman", I love it! A few weeks ago there was a post on sailing to and from Block Island from Boston. when was the los angeles lakers organization established Similar deal, lots of difficult sea conditions. Even for weeklong when was the los angeles lakers organization established trips from port to port, managing and planning supplies and stops can be tricky, dealing with timing of weather windows, tides and winds. Longer crossings (40-50 miles) can take greater planning. Cool problem to have.
Hi Kieth, be patient on the responses, this is prime sailing season, so some of the more experienced sailors are on the water and spending less time on the website. The Catalina 25, can be a good boat, but there are a lot of variables that affect it being seaworthy vs.a liability, and your skill as Skipper is way up there. when was the los angeles lakers organization established Check my previous post "C25 Achilles when was the los angeles lakers organization established Heel" and you will find where I raised the same questions, I got a lot of good comments and suggestions. To get a better when was the los angeles lakers organization established perspective, start looking at other sailboats that are not Catalina 25's, then you will start to see what makes some other boats better choices for long distance cruising. That being said, I am pretty certain a C 25 has made it from San Francisco to Hawaii probably more than once. Doug
Somewhere in the archives from about a year or so ago, are the many months journey when was the los angeles lakers organization established mostly sleep-ins on trailer but also with sailing at stopover points along the coastline this done by one of our loyal members. There was a log of the day to day journey.
When the distance is split by multiple hops, it kinda breaks down to a series of short sails. As Henk described in his articles on the site and in the Mainsheet, lots of things to see and experience when was the los angeles lakers organization established rather than just see the sea. Reminds me of that old saying "I joined when was the los angeles lakers organization established the Navy to see the world, and what did I see? I saw the Sea!" We took our C250WB to Bimini when was the los angeles lakers organization established from Biscayne Bay, not a trip I would do again over a weekend, but, in the company of others and with a few weeks to wait for suitable windows, I would do it again, even to the Bahamas, it's not so long a hop. By all accounts, the C25 is more of a stable boat and living on board with the extra headroom would be a plus. When I retire, when was the los angeles lakers organization established if I don't get a bigger boat, then we will probably stretch the range of JD and get out of here! Paul
For coastal cruising it can go as far as you want. For me it was really a comfort issue more than anything else that drove finding a larger boat. For a 5'4" sailor that would be less of a concern and I'm sure someone has cruised on these boats for a year or longer. The lightly bolted in structural bulkheads, chainplates tied into plywood instead of fiberglass, barely secured tanks, and volcano-style through hulls are the concern for big weather when was the los angeles lakers organization established on these boats, not the size of them. They are great coastal cruisers, but not built for offshore work. Compare with a Dana 24 for a boat that isn't much larger but does have the build for crossing oceans.
Hi Keith... There is no "answer" to your question--just a lot of opinions. Most of them have to do with going off-shore on a C-25, meaning being several days (or more) from anyplace to hide when weather arrives. It's an annual discussion here while most of us have boats on the hard, under tarps. Going from California to Hawaii, for example, when was the los angeles lakers organization established there's no weather when was the los angeles lakers organization established forecast that can guarantee you a weather window--stuff is likely to happen, and there you are. One thing that can happen when was the los angeles lakers organization established is the wind goes away for a week or more--I know folks who've experienced that. Fuel and water can become serious issue then. The swing keel is problematic if you're caught out there in 20' seas that are putting huge stresses on its pivot point. The pop-top (on many C-25s) is another big liability when sailing over the horizon, as are the sail locker ("dumpster") that is open to the bilge, the lack of a bridge deck at the companionway, the light-duty mast step, the transom-hung rudder, single lifelines, and most especially (for most C-25s) the outboard. The Pacific Seacraft Dana 24 is indeed an example of a purpose-built blue water cruiser. The C-25 is a capable coastal cruiser--a when was the los angeles lakers organization established "big boat" for the money, but meant to be in port during the storm. The fin keel version has about the same ballast/displacement ratio as the Dana, but the Dana's when was the los angeles lakers organization established ballast and displacement numbers are much larger. As said, you probably can cross an ocean in a small coastal cruiser, I suppose... but if you have responsibilities to anyone, when was the los angeles lakers organization established or people who care about you, you won't get my respect for doing it. Along the coast, it's just a question of how long the "hops" need to be. You seem to have more experience with that than the large majority of us here. So what's your answer?

I think this is more a question of comfortable space than it is the safety or reliability of the boat. I sailed my C 250 46 miles over the weekend in 2 days. 24 miles the first day and 22 the second but I wouldn't want to do that for a very long length of time, like weeks that you seem to suggest. I really would not want to do it with real small children.
Greg Jackson sailed his C25, Compass Rose, in the 333 mile Chicago-to-Mackinac Solo Challenge completing it just a few seconds shy of 87 hours. Sailing a C25 non-stop over 3 1\2 days, singlehandedly, on the inland sea that is Lake Michigan is quite impressive.
