Headlining the event will be Geneva's own Aleem "the Hammer" Whitfield. Whitfield and his trainer Tim Hill will be familiar names to fans of the ABC hit national TV show "Extreme Home Makeover". Hill was selected to have a free renovation of his home to help accommodate the dozens of at-risk womens adventure travel youth in his hometown who use his center to help stay off the streets. Whitfield, who Hill adopted at a young age, is currently 4-0 and has knocked out every opponent who has stepped in the ring with him.
The boxing card will feature four multi-time Golden Glove champions as they embark on the preliminary stages of their professional careers. Whitfield (168 pounds, 4-0), Utica's Mike "Too Sharp" Rycraft (168 pounds, 1-0) and Syracuse's own Martez "the Punisher" Potter (160 pounds, 4-0), Jimmy "el Toro" Garcia (154 pounds, 1-0) and two-time Golden Gloves Champion and nationally ranked "Lights Out" Luis Vargas (147 pounds, 0-0) are all excited about being able to bring local professional boxing back to Syracuse.
womens adventure travel Canastota's Jay Johnson Jr. of JKJ Championship Promotions is excited to bring the second installment off his "Finding the Next Champion" boxing series. He is working closely with many of the same managers who helped bring Canastota's Carmen Basilio and Billy Backus to national fame. His goal is to bring a world champion back to the Upstate region and breakt hrough into the national spotlight.
