The 301-room Raddison Blu Philadelphia just put the finishing touches on its lobby last week (they were literally pressing the letters on the wall during our stay), online airline ticket agencies finalizing its $20 million conversion and celebrating its full opening. Looking for a new hotel to check out in Philly? Here are five things to know before you check in:
2. It's the first repurposed Radisson Blu property in the States : While the aforementioned properties were all new construction, the Rad Blu Philly was the first conversion project, originally opened as the Warwick Hotel in 1926. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which means that the exterior and structure of the building could not be altered. The top few floors of the hotel have remained as private residences.
3. There are perks for both tourists and business travelers : The Rad Blu's location on 17th and Locust puts guests within a block's walk of Rittenhouse Square and right in Center City, where hundreds of bars and restaurants await. Business travelers will dig the Business Class Rooms that include early check-in, Nespresso machines, upgraded bathroom amenities, and access to "The Lounge" that offers complimentary breakfast and evening refreshments (free booze and heavy apps!). On Cyber Monday (Dec 2nd), the hotel will sell its business class rooms for $19.26 online airline ticket agencies per night for stays through February 28, so be sure to hop on that if you plan to be in Philly for work over the next few months.
4. For a chain hotel, it's extremely personalized : In most chain hotels, someone could spin you around in the lobby, your room, or the hallway online airline ticket agencies and you wouldn't know if you were in California or Carolina. Other times, the decor features "local artists," but the art doesn't relate to the city. That's not the case with the Radisson Blu Philly. In the hallways and rooms, you'll find photos that focus on the sights and sounds of Philly, including recognizable buildings, sports online airline ticket agencies paraphernalia, views of the city, etc. We love this trend in chain hotels, and we're crossing our fingers that the days of personality-free hotels are done.
5. You can stay at a discount : The hotel is currently offering a 25 percent discount on stays of one or more nights when you book through Facebook. You have to like the hotel page and click the Special Offer Tab. The offer is based upon availability and valid on bookings until December 15 for stays until March 15, 2014.
