I have a 24 Dana sailboat designed by Bill Crealock and built by Pacific Seacraft. Her name is Do It. I bought her new in September, 2002, so she is almost 10 years old. The boat was designed and built to sail around the world, a blue water cruiser. Do It is usually the smallest sailboat in the marina, except for some day-sailers which are only designed for short trips.
For me, small sailboats have many advantages over larger sailboats and power boats. The first obvious reason is that a small sailboat fits my minimalist lifestyle perfectly less is more. I live very comfortably and happily in the boat s cabin that has only 84 square feet of floor space. Sometimes, I actually italy venice hotels think I have too much space. For instance, my berth is the size of a double bed and I could easily get by with a twin size. Small sailboats entail less money, less work, and other advantages.
But, there are a few negatives for me having a smaller boat. First, my engine room is very cramped making working on my engine a challenge, second, I practically have to stand on my head to get at a couple of bolts to remove my head (toilet), and third, Do It is slower than a bigger boat. But, if speed is your thing, get a little catamaran and you ll be able to outrun the big boys.
