Hi I'm going on this tour next month and would like to ask those who have either been on this tour recently or are going on the March trip - I have a simple question regarding the malaria risk - my doctor said there is little risk of getting malaria in the areas we will be travelling in, but has prescribed to start taking Malarone the day before we hit Khajuraho. Some malaria maps (e.g. Fit for Travel) show all the areas we visit as being low risk, while some other sites show the whole of India being high risk. What has been the experience of others new orleans and french quarter and hotel who have done or are doing this tour?

I am going on this holiday in a couple of weeks time, and no, you do not need malaria tablets. I took the map with all the places we were going to to my GP and the nurse checked new orleans and french quarter and hotel and said we did not need them, and she is exceptionally methodical as I travel new orleans and french quarter and hotel a lot.
Hi Bob My doctor's nurse referred me to the pharmacist re. malaria. Initially he said it was low risk and I didn't need to take anything. However, when i mentioned we are travelling around as opposed to staying in one place he said it may be advisable to take something. He gave me "Avloclor" of which you take 2 a week (on the same day) starting a week before you travel. They only cost £4.03. Small price to pay for peace of mind I think! These same tablets are also recommended in a couple of books I've looked at about India. I'm on the March trip so look forward to seeing you soon.

I've just booked for the India tour departing 28th April and been to the doctor's today for the required jabs. The doctor said that there is definitely no need for the malaria tablets and as I know that they can sometimes make you feel a bit queasy I'm happy to give them a miss. I'm more worried about rabies! Happy days.
Don't forget there can be a risk of Dengue Fever, as the areas we are visiting have outbreaks from time to time, although generally they seem to be at the end of the rainy season. So bring the DEET just in case! Happy hols,
I am also going on this trip and again as per the previous posts it would appear that anti malaria tablets are not necessary. But after talking to the travel nurse at my doctors surgery we came to the conclusion that as we will be touring around and then going to Ranthambore game reserve it might be prudent new orleans and french quarter and hotel to take some precautions, therefore I have got 'Paludrine/Avloclor anti-malarial travel pack' which had to be ordered from my chemist. These need to be taken 1 week before and then continue till 4 weeks after. I guess that if I don't get bitten then I won't need to continue with then upon returning home. Hopefully there won't be any side effects.
Hi I started this thread and went last March - I think only one person on our tour took anti-malaria pills. I brought mine but did not take them as I got Delhi Belly (Jaipur variety!) and didn't want to upset my stomach any further by taking the malarone, new orleans and french quarter and hotel as it can be hard on the digestive new orleans and french quarter and hotel system. I didn't see any mosquitoes while away and didn't get bitten, but it would be wise to use DEET especially when in Ranthambore. It was a great but exhausting trip, have a great time and I hope you spot a tiger!
