Just gotta look. I just moved into a 800 sq foot 1 bedroom apt, midtown (forrest hill), above ground
I guess this is the week of the double post for me. It started when I decided to compile a second list of top Toronto landmarks in response to the discussion on our original post , and it continues today with a follow-up to my collection of apartment las vegas club hotel casino rentals on Craigslist in excess of $5000 a month . The first of these apartment rental posts was a little las vegas club hotel casino bit of impromptu fun, but taking a look at apartments on the lower end of the scale requires a bit of caution.
I'm not going to delve into some serious bit of analysis of the Toronto apartment market -- what I'm going to reveal, that it's expensive ? -- but I also don't want to position this collection mistakenly as another exercise in making fun. Instead, las vegas club hotel casino this post represents the satisfaction of a curiosity that was sparked yesterday. The fact is, people should be able to find reasonable accommodation for $500 worth of monthly rent.
And, for the most part, this brief -- and admittedly limited search bears that out. What's also apparent, however, is that on Craigslist the pickings for these rooms and apartments is slim. Unsurprisingly, very few are located close to downtown and the majority of them are basements.
las vegas club hotel casino A search through ViewIt.ca yields a somewhat different set of results. When one chooses the option of $599 or less for an apartment, almost every listing has the "$Call" designation instead of an actual price. A less than scientific comparison with Montreal's Craigslist (see below), on the other hand, does reveal more options -- at least on this occasion.
What does this tell me? Not much that I didn't already know. But, it has given me an idea to look into this in a bit more depth. As unscientific as searching sites like Craigslist may be, the added benefit of photographs of the apartments, I think, makes city-to-city comparisons rather intriguing.
i had a discussion about rental price differences with a friend from Montreal recently. i was floored at what $900 could get you in Montreal. i've been looking for a new place for a while and for $900 in Toronto, there is no way you're going to get a nice, two room, centrally located, not-a-basement apartment. at $1200 and if you're fast maybe you'll find something, $1600 is more realistic.
And if you have a close, long term cat friend, then you can just forget about renting according to most these ads. Those with dogs have even more problems. There are loads of reasonable reasons for landlords to reject pets: allergies, smells, possible damage, etc., but for many people, especially those looking for low rent accommodation, their animals are their only friends.
when I rented my place, I was told by the management company that pets aren't allowed, but we can't do anything about it as long as we're informed las vegas club hotel casino that there are pets in a unit and no one complains about it . I don't remember why, but I'm pretty sure it had to do with the law siding with the tenant when it comes to pets.
If you look hard, you can find good, cheaper accommodations. Not common, but available. For example, I live in a 2nd-floor 1-bdrm apt in a low-rise - very clean and quiet, and decent-sized las vegas club hotel casino space - for $825+hydro in Parkdale. Right off the King streetcar and a second from the Gardiner. Found it in the summer!
Just gotta look. I just moved into a 800 sq foot 1 bedroom apt, midtown (forrest las vegas club hotel casino hill), above ground, all hardwood floors, 5 minute walk to subway station, nice place for $850 inclusive. There's tons of places for rent. Get off the web and go to a neighborhood las vegas club hotel casino you like and walk around, look for 'for rent'signs. I saw lots of great places for $800-$900 that weren't on the web. People live on the web these days, there's a whole entire world that ain't on the internet people.
As long as they're not discriminating re: ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc., landlords can refuse to rent to whoever they want. However, under the Tenant Protection Act, you can't be evicted for having a pet.
It's difficult because any reasonably priced one bedroom apartment is going to be in a basement. I tried this and ended up with tons of mold. I had a dehumidifier running all year, my landlords accused me or running a humidifier, and already knew about the problem. I have asthma and allergies and was sick for a long time from this. I ended up being homeless for a bit. I've moved 4 times in the 4 years I've lived in Toronto. I've been screwed over by landlords and roommates so many times but I can't afford to do anything but suck it up. I'm currently in an apartment that I realistically can't afford unless I get a better las vegas club hotel casino job (which is hard at a young age), but it's above ground and not owned by people who are just trying to make a quick buck off students looking for cheap housing.
Of course there could be issues regarding excessive noise, dirt etc. But hey, that can be caused by us humans as well, eh? So I encourage everyone to remember that law. Our animals are our friends, they add a lot to our lives and we're better people when we're with them.
Yeah, it's tough to find anything NOT a basement and/or bachelor for under $500. From what I've heard from friends with decent apartments for around this price, walking around is your best option. You can find a lot of decent places for cheaper by walking las vegas club hotel casino down side streets.
I tried to live in a little basement bachelor. 700/ month at Sherbourne and Gerrard. Without even going in to how scary that neighbourhood can be, it was infested with various bugs - centipedes, cockroaches, beetles, spiders etc. and then a few months in black mold started las vegas club hotel casino to appear from behind the paint. The windows didn't open in the place and I actually got quite sick from all of the dampness, allergens etc. The heat broke at one point in the winter, so the landlord gave me this little space heater to heat the entire place for the rest of winter. I am so happy to be out of that place!
When I saw the ad on Craigslist I thought it was a joke. I was afraid I would show up to the showing and be kidnapped. Turned out they just wanted to get a great tenant las vegas club hotel casino and with a low price could be picky. Turns out, there are some cool, affordable, non-disgusting places if you are willing to wait it out.
@iskyscraper the TTC probably isn't putting strip/line maps on each streetcar because different vehicles are occasionally run on different routes. I suppose that the solution is having screens inside the...
