Industry Community Services: Tourism Vancouver Island’s 50 th Annual Conference AGM was held September 24 – 26, 2013 in the Alberni Valley at the BEST WESTERN PLUS Barclay Hotel. Thank you to all involved – students, stakeholders, sponsors, carnival cruise line vacation speakers, volunteers, and delegates! This year’s conference included carnival cruise line vacation many great events such as the Annual Golf Classic at the Alberni Golf Club, and the Welcome Reception aboard the M.V. Frances Barkley.
The keynote speakers included the Honourable Naomi Yamamoto, Minister of State for Tourism and Small Business, Travel Writer Robin Esrock, and Colin Angus, the first person to circle the world exclusively on human power. Other highlights of the conference included a panel of past Tourism Vancouver Island Board Chairs facilitated by Wendy Magnes of Destination British Columbia, the 2 nd Annual Mayor’s Jeopardy, Lesley Anderson of the Canadian Tourism Commission, and Andrea Shaw, Chair of Destination British Columbia’s Board of Directors. Also on the agenda was Arlene Keis of go2, Jerrid Grimm of Newad and Angela Nagy of GreenStep Solutions. carnival cruise line vacation Delegates enjoyed a ride on the rails aboard the historic Alberni Pacific Railway out to the McLean Mill National Historic Site.

Carol Ann Terreberry returns for a two-year appointment and was re-elected as Chair of the Board. Carol Ann is the Operations Manager of Quadra Island Golf Club on Quadra Island, the newest carnival cruise line vacation golf facility on the west coast. Terreberry acknowledged the service and dedication of outgoing directors Conny Nordin of Galiano Oceanfront Inn and Spa, Alan McGillivray of Prince of Whales Whale Watching, and Michael O’Hara , former General Manager of April Point Resort Spa.
Returning to the Board for their second year of a two-year term are Duane Bell of Middle Beach Lodge, Jim Owens of Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort Conference Centre, Lillian Hunt of U’Mista Cultural carnival cruise line vacation Centre, Stephen Peters of Pacific Sands Beach Resort, Jenn Bogwald of MNP, and Raymond Chan of Pacific Carbon Trust. Also returning as Past Chair is Chuck Fast of LP Consulting. Trade Media Relations: Summer was a busy time for the Trade Media Relations department. carnival cruise line vacation The department hosted over 25 press trips and 10 trade familiarization (FAM) tours this summer. We would like to extend our thanks to all stakeholders who supported these trips. In September, carnival cruise line vacation Nadine attended Go Media Canada carnival cruise line vacation Marketplace, held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and conducted 32 pre-scheduled appointments with travel journalists from Canada and International markets. Of these 32 journalists, 5 were nominated for awards for their outstanding work. Interest was high in visiting Vancouver Island so we are eager to host these key media in the near future.
On the Travel Trade side, we will be hosting a Canada’s West Post FAM this year visiting regions such as the Comox Valley, carnival cruise line vacation Parksville, Cowichan and Victoria. This will be an excellent opportunity to showcase the outstanding wine and culinary experiences and products that the Island has to offer. In early October we will be conducting training at Jonview headquarters in Toronto and Montreal to provide staff with a better understanding of the product they are selling and how best to sell it. In addition to meeting with Jonview staff, Destination British Columbia and the six regional organizations will host an event for key tour operators in Toronto to promote British carnival cruise line vacation Columbia products and experiences. Lastly, Heather McEachen carnival cruise line vacation has returned from maternity leave and will be leading the Trade and Media Relations department. We extend a big thank you to Luba Plotnikoff for her lead in the department during Heather’s absence.

We asked our Facebook fans and Twitter followers what their favourite forest walk in the Vancouver Island Region is and posted the results in the newsletter. The Times Colonist , Alberni Valley Times and the Vancouver Sun all published articles about this Top 10 list generating an even higher profile carnival cruise line vacation of the incredible opportunities we have.

The site was relaunched in the Spring and includes new pages including “Outdoor Activity” within the “Things to Do” section. The website continues to have a strong Vancouver Island presence and total visits to the Vancouver Island section is up more than 20% over the last year and has also registered 17% more page views and over 20% more unique visits. Tourism Vancouver Island Presents TJ Chandler and Heather McEachen: TJ Joined Tourism Vancouver Island on August 2 as Consumer Marketing Coordinator within the Marketing Department. TJ is a relative carnival cruise line vacation new-comer to Vancouver Island, but has fully embraced ‘Island Life’. She completed the first year of her Tourism Management Degree at Vancouver Island University, during which time she participated in the Mentorship program carnival cruise line vacation with Tourism Vancouver carnival cruise line vacation Island. TJ is now working on her degree part-time while working at Tourism Vancouver Island and she looks forward carnival cruise line vacation to helping showcase the best of Vancouver Island to our many visitors.
Heather returned to Tourism Vancouver Island in early September after a maternity leave with her first child (a boy named Cooper). In her present capacity as Trade Media Relations Manager, she works with the international travel carnival cruise line vacation trade to create new itineraries to sell to their clients, carnival cruise line vacation and is responsible for working with travel media who visit Vancouver Island in an effort to increase editorial in a variety of mediums.
Destination BC is pleased to offer a 60-minute webinar introducing the power of social media and online reviews.
