The union leadership has waged a pointless series of protests against the hotels in San Francisco over its almost year-long contract negotiations, it has been thrown out of the San Francisco Visitors and Conventions Bureau san francisco hotel (has that ever happened before? Ever?), and now it is working hand in hand with the City Hall Service Employees International Union to pass an initiative that will raise hotel taxes to 17.5 percent, the highest in the nation.
Just when will the elected leaders and City wake up and call UNITE HERE out of the game? UNITE HERE’s paranoid and egotistical leader Mike Casey is hurting the economy of the City of San Francisco and the job security of his own members. Each and every passing day, Casey and the leadership of UNITE HERE Local 2 finds some new way to damage themselves and S.F.
When will the International UNITE HERE leadership, headed by John Wilhelm, who has long considered san francisco hotel Casey to be a loose cannon and strategically and intellectually challenged, step in and take over Local 2? The day could be coming. Especially san francisco hotel now that the international union has settled it differences with the international SEIU today .
But no matter what happens to Casey and the leadership of Local 2 in San Francisco, one thing is for sure: their cause is dying by their own hands and they are doing their best to bring down the entire City of San Francisco san francisco hotel with them.
Just several weeks ago, UNITE HERE and City Hall workers SEIU members placed a measure on the November ballot called the “Hotel Fairness Initiative,” san francisco hotel which raises hotel taxes by 2 percent. san francisco hotel Seems like a small amount, except that major conventions in this economically challenged economy are looking at every dollar and now S.F. may have the highest taxes in the nation, should the measure pass. Why did the unions put it on the ballot? To help pay for expensive pensions, san francisco hotel healthcare benefits and the jobs of S.F. City Hall workers.
Yet, just this week UNITE HERE held a protest in Union Square in front of the Grand Hyatt and more than 150 S.F. police officers san francisco hotel were necessary to arrest the union demonstrators san francisco hotel in the highly organized and pre-planned san francisco hotel event.
First, if UNITE HERE and SEIU are really concerned about raising taxes to pay for City workers, why do they waste the taxpayers san francisco hotel money by holding a demonstration that uses the taxpayers money to serve their own political and publicity needs?
Secondly, why doesn’t the City of San Francisco charge UNITE HERE in the same way it charges corporations for special events to use its streets? UNITE HERE should have paid the City of San Francisco for his publicity stunt that was solely for its own benefit and used taxpayer resources.
UNITE HERE should be finding a way to negotiate a new, fair contract for its dwindling membership san francisco hotel in this dwindling economy in San Francisco. Instead, Mike Casey and Local 2 are fiddling with themselves as San Francisco’s economy burns.
When you are sitting around the water cooler every day, you can always san francisco hotel start a conversation with your colleagues by saying “Guess what I saw it in the San Francisco Sentinel this morning.” You will sound brilliant and informed.
