Oh happy day! The blog has a new design. europe river cruise I love new blog design days and once again Designer Blogs hooked me up with the perfect fall design that incorporates my obessesion totally healthy love of gold and dots. This might be my favorite design yet (I know that I say that every time but I REALLY mean it this time).
I had two objectives. I wanted to stay in the French Quarter and I wanted to stay at a hotel with character. Visiting New Orleans and then staying at the HoJo defeats the purpose, IMO. I found a great old hotel and booked the last room - score. It was nonrefundable though, I hope that does not bite me in the butt. The Engineer has been before, but this is my first time in New Orleans. My mother has already given me some ideas and we do know that we are going to do a ghost walk. I LOVE ghost walks.
We are also going to make our way over to Biloxi and spend a night at the Beau Rivage , which is hilarious as neither of us are gamblers. I go to Las Vegas to shop, not play the slots. But neither of us has been and we want to tour the area and see all of the antebellum mansions.
We love taking our kids on trips - especially europe river cruise Big Kid who is almost old enough to go to cool places like Washington D.C. and NYC. He is like me, he loves the hustle and bustle of the city. But those are not vacations, those are trips, and they are a lot of work. So this one is just for the parentals and it is long overdue. Don't cry for them Argentina, the kids will have much more fun with Gramma.
Sounds great, I m jealous. The last time I was there was before Katrina and so much has changed since then that I doubt any of my recommendations would be relevant. We did go to a great dive bar for a crawfish feast and that was super fun (I love going to the local places). And obviously I don t have to tell you to go to Cafe du Monde. Every. Single. Day. Twice. Jazz at Preservation Hall or Tipitina s. Muffalta at Central Grocery. Beignets at Cafe Du Mode. Take the ferry to Algiers just for the view of the Quarter. Shop the length of Magazine Street. Ride the trolley. Have a burger at the Harbor Grille in the Marnigny. Walk through a cemetary. Have oysters at Acme. A hurricane at Pat O Briens. Dinner at Cochan. Brunch at Commander s Palace. Poboy at Domilese s. Walk thru the Quarter europe river cruise early in the morning. Watch the ships from the levee. Have the stuffed eggplant at KPauls. Or go to Mother s for almost anything on the menu. Know that the wonderful carvings along Beach Blvd in Biloxi where mighty live oaks before Katrina and that local artists preserved what was left. One more note. Many of the beautiful homes along the coast did not survive Katrina. Beauvoir has been restored but sadly many lots along the coast are still empty. If you take I-55 to NOLA and want that slice of history, take a detour through Port Gibson and Natchez. Grant called Port Gibson the city to pretty to burn. I loved the brunch at Court of Two Sisters. Besides many of the places mentioned we ate at multiple Brennan s restaurants and at one of Emeril s restaurants. We also did the tour of the French Quarter with the National Parks Ranger. I was at a conference so touring was limited but it is a wonderful city.
