My BFFPL {best friend from previous life =P} contacted me today and was wondering about buying a travel crib for her little girl and I thought I would just give her my opinion on the blog in case anyone else was interested in my answer. Which I highly doubt. So just consider los angeles valley college this a free pass to our private conversation. {Almond Joy, I hope you don't mind!}
Anyway, Almond Joy has been working very hard for the past couple of weeks trying to get her baby girl to learn to fall asleep on her own. She's been so determined to get this to happen that she's even been keeping a sleep journal to jot down her daughter's sleep habits. That's one determined los angeles valley college mama, wouldn't you say?!
Need your advice about a travel crib. I was thinking about getting the Graco Travel Lite Crib for her to sleep in whenever I'm over at someone else's cause she is used to sleeping in the crib. I've tried having her sleep on the floor or a bed...I end up putting her in the baby seat. Any suggestions?
With my first baby, I was very adamant about where my child slept. I always put her down in her crib for naps and at bedtime. It always put me in a panic whenever we had to travel anywhere as I was always worried about ruining her hard won sleep habits and having los angeles valley college to start all over again.
One time, when we were visiting Father-in-law's house, I decided that I needed a travel crib for BrownEyes. Monsieur went out that night and bought the cheapest play pen-crib combo he could find. It was Graco. And from then on, everywhere we went, that crib traveled with us. To Mom's. los angeles valley college To his father's. It went with us on the plane to New Jersey. And, you probably don't remember this AJ, it also went with us to your wedding. It was the biggest pain EVER, especially for my husband or brothers who had to do all the heavy lifting, and I got laughed at about it a lot, but it was the only place I could put BrownEyes where I knew she wouldn't roll off a bed or ruin her sleeping habit of falling asleep los angeles valley college on her own. At one point, I got so sick of carrying that thing everywhere that Mom ended up buying one for us for her house. This was a huge help. We would get to Mom's house in the middle of the night and she'd have the crib set up for us and it just made everything so much easier.
The travel/portable crib, whatever you want to call it, was fantastic. No matter where I went, I could just put BrownEyes down in it and she'd fall asleep on her own. She knew whenever I put her in the crib that it was time to sleep and she would lay quietly, play for a little while and eventually drift off to sleep. I loved it!
When CurlyLocks came along....the last thing I needed was to drag along that crib wherever we went. Ha! It was either carry the crib or carry the babies. So the crib stayed home and the babies went with me. And we all learned to live and sleep all squished in bed or spread out on the floor. And, of course, when we went to Mom's house, los angeles valley college we had her crib. Alhumdulillah, kids are flexible that way. Well, sometimes. :)
Although that travel crib was a royal pain to deal with sometimes, it gave me a peace of mind like nothing else. My baby and I both slept soundly through the night and that was something that I just really needed. And I was going to get it no matter how hard we had to work carrying that thing everywhere.
So, in conclusion AJ, if I were you, I'd totally invest in a travel crib. Especially after all that hard work you put in to teach her to fall asleep on her own. It may take a couple of nights, but pretty soon, your baby will realize that Mommy means business when she pulls out that crib. And you and she will sleep soundly, Insha'allah.
