JF: "You have to retire to something, not retire from something" was a favorite saying of Jenepher Field's husband, Louis. Watch Where You Step: Going to the Dogs is the story of their struggles and successes, and of the ways in which they evolve and grow. JF: I wanted to write about the story of how we planned, built and still run Sagemoor Kennels here in Washington State. What was more, I wanted to write about the pets we boarded and loved, about what it was like to not only change careers, but to change lifestyles and to live in new places. Louis had grown up farming in Kansas and I had moved from New Zealand to the U.S. These are some of the themes of change and taking steps in new directions that flow throughout this book and give readers new challenges and ideas.

JF: This book falls into the category of Memoir. Not many memoirs are about two people who head into retirement as the owners of boarding kennels for dogs and cats, especially when those two knew little about running a business. But they do it successfully from the first ideas to the fulfillment of those ideas. It is not a "how to do it" book but a "how we did it" book.
JF: Yes, I have published one other book The Cloth Covered Notebook That Contains my Mother's Story, which is about my mother, who was born and brought up in England until she met my father, a New Zealander. Both were medical doctors and my mother moved out to New Zealand to live and raise their two children, one of whom is me.
Jenepher Field was born and raised in New Zealand, and was educated in New Zealand, England, delta airlines best fares and the United States. She has worked in bookstores and libraries, as a technical editor, as a secretary, and as a mental delta airlines best fares health counselor. Her longest-term job has been that of wife and mother. While this experience was discouraging, Jenepher's life circled back around to her love of writing; at every opportunity, she writes poetry and short stories, and she is working on two historical novels.
