UploadedFile11 The first train was in Laos. We were stamped out of the country at the train station in Laos, then crossed the friendship bridge in a purple train and crossed into Thailand. The formalities were dealt with at the train station again. I have a free fifteen day visa which is just long enough. The sleeper to Bangkok was much bigger. On Thai trains the hard sleeper is parallel to the corridor and there is a curtain you can draw across for sleeping. My favourite part of the journey was the dining car. There are no panes to te windows and you have a lovely cooling hermitage hotel nashville breeze as you tootle along. The atmosphere in the dining hermitage hotel nashville car is livelier too. People were going to bed very early in the carriages, but in the dining car there were Thai music videos.
