We brought one of those back from FL last year in our Uhaul . Must have crawled into our hose sack. He came out in TN, crawling from under the carpet running across the ceiling of the Uhaul . His name is Olie; he lives in a tank in our livingroom now with a buddy named Lena II. We thought Olie was a she; when we bought a she-anole to live with the what we thought was a she-anole, we discovered Olie was a he. He is still alive; we are on our second travel to kauai Lena.
I have had two similar experiences. First, a few years ago I had borrowed a tent and found a dead frog in similar shape to the picture shown earlier. The previous users of the tent had been flooded out. Second, a few years later when we were setting up our pop up we noticed a black spot between the screen and the plastic of the window. Upon closer examination it was a little furry. It turns out a bat got stuck there as we had put the pop up down around dusk the night before. We were able to capture him to get him out of the pop up but he was much happier to be released a few minutes later.
I came eye to eye with two snakes in our laundry room. Evidently they had been living there for awhile by the number of snake skins. Long story short, the seal on the foundation got fixed real quick and someone learned why masons don't touch the mortar.
