I am working on my 1991 gmc sierra 5.7L v8. First, the cruise discount hotels brussels control stopped working, then the speedometer stopped. Could this be a faulty cruise control module that is mounted to the fire wall? Also, is there a way to test this module?
1. Speed sensor in the transmission. If it's 2WD it is in the tailshaft housing. Check its connection, wiring, etc. If it's 4WD it will be in the transfer case. They can be tested with a voltmeter, though I don't have the specifics in front of me, maybe someone else can post them.
2. Speed sensor discount hotels brussels buffer - unfortunately on 1988-1991, it's built into the speedometer itself, not a separate module like 1992-1995 have. I haven't seen too many fail outright so this is the lesser suspect.
Not sure what metal box you're looking at but the cruise module itself is a black module on the engine compartment side of the firewall, next to the brake booster - has a cable coming out attaching to the throttle body crank arm. These rarely go bad.
