Auburn University alumnus Michael Garber and his elaborate tailgating bus are a prime example. Whether you first catch sight of the Tiger Prowler 2.0 while it's barreling down the road or parked outside Jordan-Hare florida keys vacations rentals Stadium, it's bound to get your attention.
Garber, 26, said the idea of putting together a tailgating oasis to use during home games first came to him as a freshmen. florida keys vacations rentals While he considered the idea of simply investing in an RV, the Florence resident said he settled on using a bus instead.
"When I started doing the research and brainstorming as to how I could do this and make it unique, I found the idea to make an RV out of a bus," Garber said. "I toyed with the idea of buying an RV and gutting it, but most RV s are built very cheaply and I needed something that wouldn t need a whole lot of maintenance."
At the age of 21, Garber was finally able to see his tailgating fantasies come true. He bought the original Tiger Prowler, which served as a Grand Canyon tour bus and a mobile dressing room for bands during its former life in Phoenix. Unfortunately, the dream, at least for the original bus, was short lived.
"The whole way from Phoenix to Alabama it drove fine, but as soon as we made a left turn off the interstate at the College Street florida keys vacations rentals exit it blew a tire," Garber said. "That bus was plagued with transmission problems so after getting it towed for the last time, I decided to trade it for a boat, which I then traded for this new bus."
Though Garber's current bus, 1988 model S1700 blue bird, may bear the name of its protege, that's where the comparison ends. With a variety of features, including a 5,000-watt sound system, two flat-screen TVs, an adult beverage dispenser, five beds, air conditioning and a rooftop florida keys vacations rentals deck that has been known to hold around 30 people, the Tiger Prowler 2.0 is certainly an upgrade.
While the tiger-striped school bus attracts attention where it goes, Garber said the nature of attention ranges based on the football team allegiance of the onlooker. With the inclusion of a new addition this season, a 30-foot pull-behind camper Garber is calling the Liberty Lounge, that's unlikely to change.
"When I drive down the road, I either get a thumbs up/honk from Auburn fans or another finger up from Alabama fans," Garber said. "Yes, people have been known to strain neck muscles trying to get a look at the bus."
The Tiger Prowler 2.0 will be tailgating at the RV fields on Donahue this Saturday before the Auburn Tigers take the field at 6 p.m. Garber said fans are welcome to come take pictures throughout the day and use to hashtag #tigerprowler to show them off.
