After a few months, you may have saved enough to book your flights or pay for your lodging.  This can be a great opportunity for your children to learn about the financial preparation needed to plan a vacation and the benefits of saving for a goal.
Include your children in the planning by encouraging them to set aside their own money to pay for souvenirs. Ask your family to brainstorm ways you can save money on your trip. For example, can you book a place with a kitchen to avoid dining expenses? What can you pack ahead of time to avoid unnecessary purchases (like extra sunscreen or an umbrella)? Can you coordinate your vacation with another family and split the cost of lodging?
