There are just more than 12,000 hotel rooms in Calgary and, as of late Friday afternoon, those outside the downtown core were almost at capacity, said Jon Jackson, executive director for the Calgary Hotel Association.
All the downtown hotels are operating on backup generators, Jackson said, adding they are not accepting any new arrivals. While some remaining guests have been relocated to hotels in other areas of Calgary, the majority of guests are staying put, he said.
Guests at the downtown Fairmont Palliser Hotel have been "most gracious" given the situation, canada travel last minute deals said Jon Mathews, the director of operations there.
