Hi, I m Erik Magnus. I m a travel writer and adventurer who spends a lot of time reviewing Grand Canyon tours. I ve pretty much taken every type of tour you can at the South Rim, ranging from day hikes, mule rides, helicopter flights, and airplane tours. If someone strung a zip line across it, I d be the first in line. I just love the place.
I m really sold on this Colorado River float tour with bus . It s perfect for individuals, families (kids four years and age and up are welcome!), the inn of the dove and seniors. There are also NO white-knuckle rapids on this trip, which means you can kick back, relax, and savor the scenery without getting roughed up. Further, it s a one-day trip, which means it can be fit into even the tightest itinerary.
Pick up/drop off at all Tusayan South Rim hotels. Luxury bus to Glen Canyon Dam in Page, AZ. Lunch, professional river guide, drinks, pontoon boat included. See the Navajo Reservation and the Painted Desert. Stop-over at Cameron Trading Post for souvenirs. Trip is 12.5 hours total.
As they say, getting there is half the journey, right? This tour starts in the morning by boarding a luxury bus and heading the inn of the dove along the edge of the South Rim before you hang a left and skirt the East Rim. Keep your eyes peeled: The Navajo the inn of the dove Indian Reservation and the Painted Desert are right outside the window.
Onward, the bus reaches the town of Page, AZ, where you ll head to Glen Canyon Dam (the dam s wall rises 700-plus feet!) and go two miles through a dam access tunnel to the base. Here you ll board a motorized pontoon boat and start your float trip down the Colorado River until you reach historic Lee s Ferry. Next, you ll board your luxury bus for the trip back to the South Rim.
This tour is totally satisfying. Not only have you seen the canyon from the edge of the rim, but also you have experienced the river that created it. Few people can claim to have done that. If you are looking for a no-rapids rafting tour down the Colorado, this, fellow explorer, is the trip for you!
