Quick/sweat and no Pictures I can Publish. New Orleans was very crowded and very safe. We walked everywhere even in the projects, NO Problems. usa coach bus tours in syracuse ny Stay at the Ambassador Hotel near Harrah's Casino. The hotel was constructed in a 1800's Coffee Warehouse. It had old school charm and old school problems. Floor was very unlevel which isn;t the best in a party town. Not fancy just old school charm. The wife and I were able to walk to the riverfront, Burbon Street, Jackson Square and the Old Cementary from our hotel. Always felt safe on the street. One Bum asked for money between the projects and Bourbon usa coach bus tours in syracuse ny Street, said I had no money and he said ok.
I'm more of a Decatur street kind a guy than Bourbon street. But I've done my time there too. THE CAJUN CORNER restaurant! That's my favorite spot on Bourbon st. Zydeco music, gator bites, usa coach bus tours in syracuse ny sucking craw fish heads... That's good times.
We heart New Orleans!! For giggles we ate at Yo Mama's, right across the street from Pat O's, very nice burgers, served with a potato instead of fries (although you can probably order ff's). Ate breakfast one morning at Johnny's Po-Boys on St. Louis St., where else can you get fried catfish with grits?!? (link below) usa coach bus tours in syracuse ny Hope to be down there within a month, needs to warm up just a little ---
We'll arrive on Ash Wednesday ~ February 17th ~ and will head home on Sunday, February 21st. We'll be staying at our timeshare ~ HOTEL DE LA MONNAIE ~ which always feels like home to us. It's in a GREAT location ~ at the foot of Esplanade Avenue at N. Peters ~ just a block from the French Market and about 100 yards from the #1 stop on the River Line Trolley. See a photo of the Hotel below....
We've been checking out places to EAT ~ I mean, that's about the main purpose (our's at least) for coming to New Orleans.... usa coach bus tours in syracuse ny We'll be purchasing 3 day transit passes so we can get around the city easily with no parking problems ~ which can be a huge hassle....
BIG FISHERMAN SEAFOOD Again for boiled crawfish....They don't have seating there, usa coach bus tours in syracuse ny but I was told that we can take our crawfish across the street to THE BULLDOG and they'll let us eat them on their patio if we buy a couple of beers.
CAFE' DU MONDE No trip to New Orleans is complete without enjoying Cafe au Lait and Beignets here. Mike shouldn't be indulging in these little French donuts coated (LIBERALLY!) with powered sugar, but I think we'll make an exception and just get one order of 3, knock of most of the sugar, and split them between us.
We also plan on driving down to LaPlace to JACOB'S WORLD FAMOUS ANDOUILLE SAUSAGE to bring back sausage with us. We just can't get good stuff here in Tampa. Mike uses andouille (ahn dew ee) in gumbo, greens, and red beans.
I'm diligently exercising every day, cutting out alcohol, and restricting my calorie intake so I can shed a few pounds before we start on our EATING OUR WAY THRU NEW ORLEANS TRIP! If any of you peeps will be in or around New Orleans while we're there, we'd love to meet up with you!
My favorites are: Acme Oyster House (best gumbo served in a bread bowl), Red Fish Grill (bar-b-qued oyster po-boy and the chocolate souffle is to die fore), and the Louisiana Pizza Kitchen (not very touristy, delicious pizza and banana foster's ice cream cake for dessert...holy moly!)
