LAKE TAHOE/RENO Feb. 6, 2010 - If the word "gnome" wellesley inns and suites streamed wellesley inns and suites into your Facebook and Twitter feeds over the last seven days you can thank Travelocity for adeptly pitting Lake Tahoe against Utah as part of a social media program designed to encourage fans to vote on their favorite ski destination. Facebook subscribers filled the Travelocity Roaming Gnome page with banter focused on who would rein victorious, which destination has better and more snow, après ski options and more. In the end, Utah edged out Tahoe by only 64 votes out of a total 285,482 cast, less than 2/100 of one percent, and with that the collective tourism marketing arm of Lake Tahoe and Reno gives Utah its due props.
"The competition did what it was designed to do for Travelocity while engaging the regional wellesley inns and suites tourism industry, locals and our visitors in a friendly competition," wellesley inns and suites Bill Hoffman, executive wellesley inns and suites director of the Incline Village/Crystal Bay Visitors Bureau and chair of the Reno-Tahoe Regional Marketing Committee said. "Frankly, we hope the Roaming Gnome knows that he always has a place in Tahoe as do the skiers and riders that call Utah, or for that matter any ski area, home. In true Tahoe spirit, we're happy that Travelocity considered us and that our fans and local Tahoe visitors showed their support for an area that's unlike any other ski destination in North America and one that knows how to throw a party and have loads of fun."
"The added attention Tahoe received through this promotion is something we can't measure, however it did give us an opportunity to share why Tahoe is a great place for ski and ride and what we have to offer year round," Hoffman said. Last week, Lake Tahoe took home another accolade capturing for the third year the most popular ski destination in the U.S. ranking for air-and-hotel package bookings for travel in 2010 based on the Orbitz Insider Index.
The Reno‐Tahoe Regional Marketing Committee (RMC) was formed in June 2001 with the mission to promote the area as a viable year‐round travel destination and to maintain and grow air service to the Reno‐Lake Tahoe region. The RMC board is comprised of representatives from the following organizations and entities: Carson City Convention & Visitors Bureau, Incline Village/Crystal Bay Visitors Bureau, Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT), North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, Reno‐Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA), Reno-Sparks wellesley inns and suites properties (Atlantis Casino Resort, Grand Sierra Resort, John Ascuaga's Nugget, Peppermill Hotel Casino and Terrible's Sands Regency), Reno‐Tahoe Airport Authority, wellesley inns and suites Reno Tri‐properties (Eldorado Hotel Casino, Circus Circus wellesley inns and suites Hotel Casino and Silver Legacy Resort Casino), Ski Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority.
