Vacation is great. What s not to love about lazing by the beach all day and soaking in the sun? After spending seven days in Cancun, Mexico, I have to say a whole lot. For a year, I planned a trip to the Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort Villas Spa in Cancun and it was everything I could have hoped for, and more. I have to admit, my mother works for Starwood Hotels Resort and was able to get me a good rate for the room, but if you can t stay at this specific resort the strip is full of over thirty other hotels and resorts and this article will include outside information as well.
Landing san francisco wine tours in Cancun was a little annoying, but only because we had a rain delay and landed along with three other planes. That s a lot of people attempting to go through customs and we ended up standing around for an hour, wondering if we were ever going to move. This can be frustrating, but take a deep breath san francisco wine tours because you ll be having fun in no time!
I suggest trying to book a shuttle through the hotel. We did. A lot of services will bombard you to ask if you need a ride, but if you can get past these people you ll end up outside where a private driver will be waiting. Amongst the crowd, we found our driver san francisco wine tours holding up a sign for their service, The One. It takes about twenty-five minutes to get to the resort and the driver is super friendly. They ll even stop so you can take a picture by the beach!
I cannot rave about the staff at the Westin Lagunamar enough. For all those who don t speak Spanish, don t fret they all speak English. But, as I feel with any country, try to at least say some words in their language, it s appreciated and might get you a cute smile at how bad your accent is. The staff is incredibly helpful. If you re a child of a Starwood employee, make sure you ask for the F B card, which will get you 50% off all food and beverages, except alcoholic beverages. You can use this during all times of the day. I suggest eating at the resort, as going out every night will rack up the bills. You get a towel card that you exchange every day for a towel and get back whenever you re done with the beach or pool that evening.
Anything you need, the staff will help you with; even if you can t figure out the WiFi. And everyone greets you with a big smile. It s refreshing to wake up every morning with everyone being in good spirits. Make sure you re nice to the waiters and waitresses, because they often jump around each restaurant, so you ll probably be seeing them wherever you go. And make sure you tip the housekeeping, because you ll probably come back to the room and see something like this every day:
The means of currency in Mexico are pesos. As an American, the first thing you will probably notice is the vast difference in appearance their bills are to our dollar. The coins all look relatively the same with some varying in sizes, but as for the bills they are each unique in their own way. Shorter in length than ours, each one is a different color with small butterflies on one side with clear film. Needless to say, their money is very pretty and probably really hard to replicate.
What you will also notice is that our dollar is a lot stronger than theirs. My friend and I were given the option to settle our bill upon our first day. While everything totaled san francisco wine tours out to about 700 USD, they calculated it to be around 4,000 pesos. It was quite comical to see two Americans briefly san francisco wine tours have a heart attack over the price, before we were reassured. After that day, each of us took out $300 US and that was able to stretch us the whole week. That all included three meals a day, alcohol, bus trips, souvenirs, and other things.
Another thing you should prepare yourself for is the sun. Seriously, bring your SPF 100. You may think you re prepared or that you tan well, but anything you ve experienced in America doesn t compare to the blazing sun in Mexico. My friend and I spent every day on the beach. Since the first two days rained we ran excitedly to the beach on the third day and only put about SPF 30 on our skin. We wanted to tan and were ready. What we were not ready for was the stinging pain of sunburn and looking like boiled lobsters.
As Americans, san francisco wine tours we re used to large portions. We have been called the nation of gluttony and upon going to Mexico I understood why. Normally, when we go to a restaurant we get the main meal, at least two sides, and appetizers. My friend and I realized how much food we have been wasting and how unnecessary these large portions san francisco wine tours are. Unlike Taco Bell, which I m assuming is everyone s idea of what Mexican food is, the real deal is in fact smaller and fresher. Their ingredients are light and most meals are only served as what you ordered, with small sides, if any at all. We were shocked at first, but felt satisfied after every meal instead of overstuffed and ready for a nap.
You can find almost everything you need in a resort. In the Westin Lagunamar, there were two restaurants, a sports bar, a small convenience store, a beach, several pools, and an activities center. There is also a shopping plaza right across the street called La Isla. It s quite huge and has numerous name brand shopping stories, an abundance of restaurants, fast food chains, and gift shops. san francisco wine tours But, if there is a reason as to why you would want to go anywhere else, take the bus. At the end of the strip are a bunch of different clubs, where the nightlife really kicks up. I would suggest Carlos and Charles for a fun time and if you re looking for a club, Señor Frogs is very popular, among any others that are in the area.
If you go past that section, there are various gift shops where everyone will try to lure you in, so just keep walking. There is also a Walmart and a Sam s club, which if you re staying at a resort for a week or so and you have a fully functioning kitchen, san francisco wine tours you might benefit from doing a little grocery shopping. The bus runs every five minutes and only costs 10 pesos one way, which isn t even an American dollar. They re fast and wherever you want them to stop, they will. I would suggest you sit in the front so you can tell him where you re going, since there really aren t any designated stops. It beats taking a cab, which will cost you around 16 American dollars one way.
In the previous section, I mentioned Cancun s club scene, so I wanted to take a moment to delve in further. As mentioned before, there are numerous amounts of clubs and restaurants right at the Hardrock Cafe, which is a good stopping point to mention to the bus driver. We only went to Carlos and Charles, and Señor Frogs, but everyone spoke about Coco Bongo , Dady O , and many others. If you re looking for more of a restaurant environment, but still want cute shot girls to come around and get you to do a shot with them, go to Carlos and Charles san francisco wine tours . Their food is fabulous, their wait staff is fun, and every five minutes, they ll start a conga line and try to get you to go with them.
Señor Frogs is known all throughout san francisco wine tours Mexico and everyone san francisco wine tours who we mentioned to that we were going on vacation to Cancun said we had to go to Señor Frogs. They even had a gift shop at the airport and I m pretty sure I saw one in La Isla. Now, Señor Frogs is a real party atmosphere and frankly, very tourist geared. They know a lot of Americans are looking to go crazy on vacation and there s nothing wrong with that. As it gets later, the party gets more intense and it becomes a full on club, with my only description to be something I saw out of the show Jersey Shore. san francisco wine tours They even have theme nights, like Foam night and Glow Party. The staff is super fun and will even get up on stage to dance or challenge you to a drinking party.
