Looking to visit China for maybe a 14 day visit at various destinations within China. We are interested in tours, but wish to make our own air and hotel reservations. We have award points and mileage and thought this would save us money on air and hotels. So, basically we'd like to take a packaged tour, but I don't think that's an option if we do our own lodging and air booking. So, how do we go about taking tours, but book our own air and lodging? I agree with Thursdays. Go ahead and make your own air and hotel reservations and go. If you find you want a day tour, you can arrange it easily on the spot, but you can also do it on your own. Do wait until you get there to arrange any tours, as I expect you will find it much easier nad less intimidating than what you are expecting.
Independent travel in China is easy. You can easily book your flights and hotels on the internet. Where do you want to go? Once you are there, there will be many, many drivers who will take you wherever you want to go for the day.
