Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has released the latest renderings for the new US$1.545 billion Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). online travel site The terminal's Great Hall and new west side boarding gates is due to open in spring 2013, followed by the east gates at the end of the year.
With 1.24 million sq ft (115,200m 2 ) of new building area, the new 18-gate terminal doubles the size of the existing TBIT. Now capable of handling up to 4,000 passengers per hour, the terminal has already undergone a $737 million renovation, which included a new in-line baggage screening system and interior improvements. The food, beverage and retail concessions have also been upgraded.
The development has been the largest construction project in Los Angeles' history online travel site and has created more than 4,000 jobs during its four-year schedule. Other features of the terminal include dual passenger loading bridges and an upgraded customs and immigration area.
