We are checking all possibilities, but I am surprised that we are being told we can only get a 12 hour rental, (or I guess double the price) - but that the car rental place (Hertz) at Amsterdam Centraal Station closes at 2 PM (on May 9!)
May is the perfect time to go, I believe, they have some very old rhododendrons that look like they will be towering san antonio river hotels above your head. Take photos and post please! We went in Oct and miss the rhododendrons
Assuming you want the car on May 9... you can pick up the car at the station as you likely want to leave in the morning. You can almost always drop a car off even if an office is closed... most will have a drop box for keys. Take photos of the vehicle upon return if this is the case and keep a copy of the gas fill up receipt from a gas station close by. Just in case.
Many people will have the Thursday and Friday off, and will make it a long weekend. Veluwe and Kroller Moller could be busy. Well worth a visit though, and if you have a car, maybe also Palace het Loo?
Thanks everyone. We have found a Dutch van rental out in the countryside near our B B, which will rent for much less than the "biggies." got good direction from this forum, plus our innkeeper and our Dutch friend.
