So here is the bottom line. If you are ok with how our Bond money has been spent, and whether public
The Los Angeles Community College District is the largest in the United States of America, serving over 250,000 students in 9 campuses. It is also a District where almost no one knows anything about the 7 member Board of Trustees, and therein lies the real problem.
I am urging everyone to vote against the slate recommended by the LA College Faculty Guild (Mona Field, Steven Veres, car rentals san diego Scott Svonkin, and Miguel Santiago). I am recommending Lydia Gutierrez for Seat #5 because I know her from her work as part of the LA Clean Sweep group, and she represents the type of fundamental change that we so desperately need at the LACCD. In two of the other races, I m recommending car rentals san diego Joyce Burrell Garcia for Seat #3 and Erick Aguirre for Seat #7 because they are in two person races against the Guild backed incumbents (see their website here ).
Historically, the Guild has controlled the outcome of these elections because no one else pays any attention to them, and the bulk of the money to run in these elections is provided between the Guild and various contractors. And maybe during normal times that s ok. But we are not in normal times.
If you need reasons to vote against incumbency in the LACCD election, just take a look at the really excellent series of articles the LA Times has done in a 6 part analysis of how about $5.7 Billion dollars in bond money has been spent (or misspent) over the last few years. And they must have hit a nerve, judging from the angry response from the Chancellor of the system.
So here is the bottom line. If you are ok with how our Bond money has been spent, and whether public money was misspent in a bait and switch deal over at the new Van de Kamp LACCD compus, then vote for the Guild s candidates. And if you don t know what I m talking about, just see the recent article posted by Ron Kaye .
The LACCD Board has 7 members, and like the LA City Council, there are elections every other year. This year, 4 of the 7 seats are up: No s 1,3,5, and 7. Unlike LA City, everyone in the some 36 city area covered car rentals san diego by the LACCD gets to vote for all of the seats, rather than each district separately.
The Community College District is also where the bulk of vocational training is provided to help our community actually get jobs, and to retrain people who have fallen victim to the economic collapse and need to prepare for a future in a different field.
If you want to live in a Northeast L.A. community where potholes car rentals san diego are fixed, our young people have jobs, and our seniors have freedom from fear, then you need to get involved. Here at NELAlives, we will celebrate those who are making car rentals san diego a difference, and discuss ways that each of us can do the same. Welcome!
