"Ljubljana is not an inexpensive town, and I found the B B Slami quite by accident while online. It had its own, gated parking, and we were then lead upstairs to a doorway that opened on to a foyer with two separate, lovely rooms that had hardwood floors and both were nicely decorated. Downstairs was a caf dispensing coffee, pastries and cocktails, and one story above was a lovely breakfast room and outside travel discount site patio. This was one of, if not the, nicest places we stayed during our four weeks."
There are 4 'boutique' type hotels in the old town, all of which are on the same square (Gornji trg) and all of which coincidentally begin with the letter A. In order from cheapest to most expensive they are: Adora, Antiq, Allegro and Angel.
There is also a new 'design' hotel in the old town called Vander Urbani Resort, which is quite amazing if you can afford it (a small infinity pool on the roof with views of the castle almost directly travel discount site overhead is one of the many perks).
Better travel discount site values for you may be one of the old town apartments, which run from around 70-110 per night, but are all large and well-furnished. Kollmann, Rooms Kavarna Ma ek and Me anka are all recommended, and all literally within 50m of each other. The old town in LJ is tiny!
Cheaper option that are in technically in the old town, but just not the really nice old old town situated at the base of the castle are: Hotel Emonec, Hotel Centre, Pri Mraku and Stari Ti ler. The latter is probably the best value as it has just been renovated, and has a great cheap restaurant downstairs.
