It seems like Southwest has been thinking about this for years and years, and that was especially the case when it decided to gobble up operations over at AirTran. Now things are a reality, as Southwest Airlines is planning to cross the border for the very first time .
This summer will be when the flights first take to the skies, as the initial international flights are scheduled to begin on July 1. Do not expect long haul journeys across continents and oceans, but if youre looking for the warm waters of the Caribbean, Southwest will have you more than covered.
The new options are already available for sale, so be sure to spend some time this morning minimizing those spreadsheets and reviewing the Southwest Airlines' website. Flyers will be able to depart from Atlanta to destinations like Aruba and Montego Bay over in Jamaica . Other options include service from Orlando to the same destinations in Jamaica and Aruba. Last but not least they will be departing from Baltimore-Washington International Airport, as the plan is to fly nonstop to Aruba, Jamaica, and the Bahamas .
AirTran boutique hotels barcelona routes to spots like Mexico and the Dominican Republic will continue as well, but these could also become Southwest flight paths by the end of the year. After that, Southwest has already hinted that it's thinking about adding a few more international options as soon as 2015.
