Turn an ordinary walk into an exploration focused in with one of your senses. We encourage plane ticket children to use their imagination but as adults we often forget to use our imagination on an every day basis. Try this imaginative technique and you will be on your way to one of the most incredible walks you've had in New York. The fun part will be that you'll be the only one in on it and everyone else around you will be completely oblivious, in their own world, to what you are seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and tasting.
Instead of looking straight ahead, look around you and up. Look closely at architecture and at the texture of things. Who else has walked here? Imagine anything important that could have happened on this street a century ago. What are you most drawn to? Can you find wildlife? What are people around you doing and how do they look? What does their expression say? Does anything you see remind you of somewhere else you've traveled to or remind you of a childhood experience?
plane ticket Have you ever tried really hard to listen to the sounds around you in New York City? All you hear is a constant hum and it almost feels like you are deaf because as hard as you try to hear everything going on in New York, you only can hear the sounds that are right next to you. Everything else is blended into what I like to call "the hum." The same hum is on the train. So go on a walk and focus in on that hum and try to pick out sounds and conversations. What are the sounds you hear? What are people saying? Does the hum sound different at different times of day, location, or outdoors as compared to on the train? How does the hum make you feel? Did you find any new sounds that you never noticed?
Do most of us know how the texture of buildings we go into every day even feel like? Touch the outside of several buildings and see how different materials feel like. It's probably cleaner than the subway since not that many people go around touching plane ticket buildings everyday. If you're in a park, go ahead and touch some trees or run your hands through grass. I know we're adults but it's okay for you to grab some snow off a car, just make sure to do it without gloves and remember how great it felt as a kid. In warmer months, go for a BAREFOOT walk on the Highline because there are so many textures on the entire walk (concrete, grass, water, metal, etc.) and don't worry because other people do it too. Also, buy a rain jacket for summer months and leave your umbrella home so that you can feel the rain pouring down on you.
There is a smell to everything, you just have to focus in on your sense of smell. Every food place as you walk by has a smell and every season in NYC smells slightly different. Smell rain in a park, on the bus (it's quite bad), and down the street in the summer and then again in the winter. Smell stores (except Abercrombie which may have too much colon depending on your taste) like clothing, furniture, plane ticket candy, etc. and try to put a name to the smells.
