Our nation’s capital calls to mind a number of things—the White House, the Smithsonian museums, and a rich and storied hotel reservations network history of political intrigue.  A simple and direct flight from most U.S. gateways, Washington is more than just the town you visited on your 8th grade field trip. Don’t miss out on the chance to visit our nation’s capital, or the chance to stay at some of the country’s hotel reservations network most beautiful and luxurious hotels. Here are seven of our favorites—it’s hotel reservations network hard to narrow down the list!
There are actually two Ritz properties in Washington, DC , but we can’t get enough of the Georgetown hotel. The 82-room boutique hotel is housed in the Old Georgetown Incinerator and done up in red, black, and brick decor in nod to its past. Inside, find a great boutique spa, a fun bar, Degrees, and a lobby that’s actually a popular local hangout — don’t miss the gratis nightly treat from 6:30-7PM, usually something to do with s’mores. The hotel is walking distance to Georgetown’s prime luxury shopping (think Barney’s Co-Op, hotel reservations network Cusp, and more) plus a ton of restaurant and nightlife.
There’s little not to like about this 99-room Relais Chateaux property downtown. It boasts elegant decor, hotel reservations network inspired by its namesake Thomas Jefferson’s years in Paris, a AAA Five Diamond restaurant, hotel reservations network Plume, a world class spa and a cocktail bar known for its hand-crafted mixed drinks and signature libations. Service is friendly yet discreet, and even “standard” rooms boast in-mirror bathroom televisions, deep soaking tubs and amenities by Red Flower. hotel reservations network If you can, stay in one of the signature suites, each decorated around hotel reservations network a theme of one of Jefferson’s passions — art, music, hotel reservations network wine or books.
With a popular roof terrace bar ( POV ) overlooking the White House lawn and a modern look at odds with many of Washington’s traditional hotel properties, hotel reservations network the W is DC ’s go-to for trendsetters and visiting celebs like Taylor Swift, J. Lo and John Legend. Nosh on steak at J G Steakhouse, hotel reservations network or opt for a facial at the onsite Bliss Spa. This hotel is our favorite for visitors seeking something a bit more boutique-y, but still upscale.
It may not be the most traditionally high-end hotel in Washington, but it’s certainly one of the most storied. The Willard Intercontinental, conveniently located right downtown at Metro Center, is one of the city’s oldest and most beloved establishments. Have a drink in the Round Robin bar or stand in the magnificent lobby, where it is said that the term “lobbying” was originally coined. Explore the Elizabeth Arden spa or take in a cup of afternoon tea. To us, this hotel embodies grace, elegance and style.
No mention of luxury hotels in Washington is complete without including hotel reservations network its only Forbes-rated five star property. The Four Seasons in the heart of Georgetown is the height of refined elegance and contemporary glamour, from the restaurant (Michael Mina’s BOURBON Steak) to the massive spa (complete with saline hotel reservations network swimming pool and a $450 gold and diamond facial). hotel reservations network Fresh from a 2008 renovation, the hotel boasts not one but eight presidential suites and a $15,000 a night “Royal” suite with a 1,000+ square-foot terrace hotel reservations network and bulletproof glass windows.
Want to stay in the hotel where every president in the United States has also bedded down? Of course you do. Pick a room at The Hay-Adams, a Preferred Hotels member that boasts the distinction of being the closest hotel to the White House — many of its rooms overlook the famed presidential mansion’s lawn. The hotel bar, Off the Record, has long been a favorite of the political elite, and its name is a nod to the gossip that often happens there.
The hotel’s unlikely location for Washington makes it part of the reason we love it so—this waterfront gem offers up some of the city’s best views of the monuments, plus great access to the Smithsonian museums. A recent weekend visit was so relaxing, we didn’t even want to leave the hotel—and you’ll never have to, thanks to the indoor pool, massive luxury spa with Amethyst steam room, and acclaimed City Zen restaurant, one of Washington’s most coveted tables.
Great list, McLean! I have to add that the Dupont Circle Hotel is one of my favorites in the city, as well. The rooms, hotel reservations network especially if you stay on the exclusive Level 9, are stunning beautiful, the location is excellent and the personalized amenities (think custom cocktail bars) are such a nice touch!
