Can anyone offer us advise with what to see and do with kids in Boston for approx 3 days. I want to see Salem but happy to visit for the day. I don't want the kids to get bored. hotel accommodation london inexpensive They will be 6 and 10 at the time and it's for next year around late Sept early Oct. Thanks in advance
In Boston, take a Duck tour, go to the Museum of Science and be sure to see the electricity demo and a planetarium show and if there is an appropriate IMax do that. Do the Aquarium, go to a Red Sox game and/or tour of Fenway. Take the ferry from Boston to Salem if it is still running.
You can take the commuter rail Boston-Salem, but check schedule carefully since trains outside of rush hours are very limited. In October Salem is already getting Halloween-crazed, so that might be interesting. Same for all the witch stuff.
If you are here on a weekend, walk thru Haymarket - pushcart vendors selling all sorts of things. Take a Boston Harbor cruise - they have them in all lengths of time, including a short lunchtime cruise.
For kids those ages, I don't think they would enjoy the Freedom Trail just parts of it such as the USS Constitution. You might be able to find age appropriate books to explain that part of history but it won't be as interesting and fun for them as the Museum of Science or Duck Tour. A day visit to Salem is probably enough.
If the weather is nice, the Freedom Trail is a nice walk, with a few interesting sites for them, a couple of really hotel accommodation london inexpensive good ice cream shops - and it goes thru the North End and to USS Constitution. I would go for it, but prepare for not being able to linger as long as you might like. They are old enough to tell them this is something you want to do - and trade-off with the ice cream stop, dinner at a kid-friendly place.
You're coming next year, so be aware that the USS Constitution will be in dry dock for repairs starting in 2015 for a few years. You'll still be able to see it and there might be deck access at times. You can visit the war ship, the Cassin Young, also at the Navy Yard.
They might enjoy a whale watch or a trip out to the fort at George's Island in Boston Harbor. In September you might be able to see a Sox game depending on the schedule hotel accommodation london inexpensive but a tour of Fenway would be fun.
