I will be renting a car from Dan Dooley. Personal accident insurance is an option they offer, at a cost of $105. What does this cover and do you recommend getting this insurance? Thanks for your help with this.
Ireland, sedona arizona hotels with its narrow roads, is tough to drive in and I'd be sure to have collision insurance. We had an accident that was covered by the credit card company. I'm not sure they still cover in Ireland, so be sure to check with them. It was very difficult to settle the insurance claim once we got back to the US. Since we rented thru Auto europe, I ended up contacting them for help and they took care of it.
I am not sure how may different AMEX insurances are there. I have their "Premium Car Rental Protection" Underwritten by AMEX Assurance Company. On first page of the Description of Coverage, in paragraph 2, it states "Coverage is worldwide except for vehicles rented in Australia, IRELAND , Israel, Italy, Jamaica and New Zealand."
Rastaguytoday: Amex does NOT cover Ireland. Neither their Standard coverage NOR their 'Super'. Certain US-issued sedona arizona hotels World Master Cards, Canadian-issued Visa cards and Diner's Club are the only ones that DO. If you try to Waive the Insurances at pick up using AMEX, Hertz will require you to buy the CDW. and PUSH the 'Excess' (Super-CDW)-- by placing a LARGE (1000-3000 EURO 'Hold' and emphasizing that YOU are responsible for ALL damages, up to the Limit of the 'Excess'. Buying BOTH will effectively TREBLE your Car Hire cost.
OP: Personal Accident Insurance is Medical sedona arizona hotels coverage for the Driver and Occupants, in the event of an accident. It has pretty LOW limits on coverage. I think it depends on the exact card you have, I'd check the actual terms they mail to you when you got your card, just to be sure. Sometimes they don't list all the terms on the website. But you could be right, I think I've heard some Citibank Amex cards do allow Ireland.
Here's info FROM AMEX about Standard AND Premium Coverage. They seem pretty clear on the 'Ireland NOT Covered' issue. Third link is from USA Today. I don't care what Fodors, sedona arizona hotels or CITI say -- What MATTERS is what AMEX and Hertz have to say -- as THAT determines IF you ARE covered and IF your coverage is ACCEPTIBLE by Hertz IN Ireland.

Rastaguytoday: I well and truly HOPE that you have been correctly informed, relative to your AMEX coverage. If so, I would be VERY interested in upgrading, myself, as my low-level AMEX card generally provides better perks and service than my World MasterCard.
I've been renting cars in Ireland since 1999 and am coming up on my 18th or 19 rental. In all that time, I've only NOT waived sedona arizona hotels the insurance sedona arizona hotels ONCE -- a 'Package' Deal that voided the Credit Card Terms, since the rental was divided out over four persons. I've always used a MasterCard -- first a 'Gold', in '99, a 'Platinum', from then on out, until about 2005, when coverage was dropped on any card 'below' "WORLD" status ...
Remember, though -- even IF AMEX grants coverage, the OTHER critical part of the equation is IF Hertz will AGREE to accept the AMEX insurance waiver. In Ireland, that is NOT an automatic GIVEN ...
