Although the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport has no regulatory or other function in relation to the private car rental industry, she is concerned about issues that impact on the tourism business in Ireland and is anxious that the relevant bodies or agencies should address these. The Car Rental Council of Ireland is the representative trade organisation for the car rental industry in Ireland and is recognised by the tourism agencies, F ilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland. This Department regularly takes on an advocacy role for tourists with the Car Rental Council of Ireland and other bodies in relation to the manner in which rental companies deal with individual tourists.
It may interest you to know that the Department has also been keeping in regular contact with the National Consumer Association (NCA) in Ireland. The NCA is currently examining the Car Rental Sector and consumers experiences in Ireland. The examination is concentrating car rental chicago cheap on alleged breaches of consumer legislation relating to unfair commercial practices, unfair terms and misleading price indications.
The examination involves a number of phases - phase one included information gathering relating to the car rental sector.
