I'm planning a 10-day trip with my mom, aunt, and 13 year-old cousin in Ireland from August 3-12. None of us have been to Ireland before and I think we might be trying grand casino hotel in biloxi to fit too much in (like many others on this forum). We are in need of a lot of advice on rental grand casino hotel in biloxi cars, places grand casino hotel in biloxi to stay, and points of interest. The only thing we've booked are our plane tickets. We're trying to stay some place two nights in a row to limit the amount of moving, but still being able to see as much as possible. We would also like to be budget conscious.
I would not change much based on the places that you would like to visit. I would stop to see the Rock of Cashel on your way from Glendalough to Waterford. Stay in Waterford that night. The following day spend it in Waterford/Wexford area. Give yourself a day not driving. You will need it. It can be stressful driving on the other side of the road.
See Blarney on your way to Killarney. I would not stop in Cork. Not a favorite spot of mine in Ireland (IMO). Take a napkin when/if grand casino hotel in biloxi you plan on kissing the "Stone". The younger set like to urinate on it at night.
On your way to Galway, see the Cliffs. Set aside some time for this. They are truly spectacular. From Galway, see Kylemore Abbey in Conamara (Clifden Road). This road is something else to drive. Be careful of the buses and the sheep. Sheep are everywhere on the back/smaller/country roads. I would not spend a great deal of time touring Galway. There is more to see in towns along the way back to Dublin.
Keep in mind that if you park, GET A PASS. Find the ticket machine. They will boot your car in a NY second in Galway. Actually make sure that you check in each town for the parking machine. Get ride of the car upon arrival in Dublin. Driving is VERY difficult grand casino hotel in biloxi with all the traffic, other side of the road concerns, grand casino hotel in biloxi and one way streets. Public transportation is the ticket. grand casino hotel in biloxi It will cost you to store the car in a parking grand casino hotel in biloxi garage. If you are renting from the airport, grand casino hotel in biloxi return it there on your way into town.
I rented my cars from both National Car Rental and Dan Dooley. Check the rates from AutoEurope; however, stating you are from the UK might get you cheaper grand casino hotel in biloxi rates. Have not been to Ireland for many years but that was once the way to get around some of the fees.
1. Book your accomdations now. Since there are 4 in your party, it will be difficult to book accomodations during the height of tourist season as you go along. For our trip, I booked our B B's about 2-3 months in advance grand casino hotel in biloxi so that I could stay in the places I preferred. We paid 40-45 Euros per person for B B accomodations.
2. We rented our car through Hertz and it worked out well for us. Automatics (which we rented) can be reserved but be aware that they do cost significantly more than a manual. Before you rent a car, read up on the various travel forums about insurance (CDW and Super CDW). It's very important to be adequately insured for your car in Ireland because grand casino hotel in biloxi there are so many opportunities for damage to your rental car.
3. If you would like to experience a small town, then you might consider staying in someplace like Malahide grand casino hotel in biloxi or Howth for the Dublin portion of your trip. Both have easy public transportation into Dublin. We found a nice B B in Malahide that offered free parking for our car (which we kept for the day trips we made to Newgrange, Trim, etc.) Also, it's an easy drive from Malahide grand casino hotel in biloxi or Howth to the Dublin airport.
On 7 August get an early start and drive to Killarney (the drive along the edge of the national park is beautiful) and on to Dingle. If the weather grand casino hotel in biloxi is good, take the ferry to the Blasket Islands. grand casino hotel in biloxi Visit a pub or two in the evening for traditional music and spend the night in Dingle. If the weather isn't conducive to a boat ride, take a bit of the Slea Head Drive.
Assuming the weather cooperated on 7 August, spend the whole day on 8 August taking the Slea Head Drive, stopping frequently for leisurely walks. If the forecast was for better weather today, go to the Blasket Islands. Spend the evening listening to more traditional music and spend the night in Dingle.
Sounds like a good plan. It is very similar to our trip last month. We went to Kinsale instead of Waterford but otherwise grand casino hotel in biloxi the same. Our favorite B B was in Killarney (Kathleen's Country House). The innkeeper was wonderful, charming and so helpful. In Galway, we stayed at the Park House Hotel and it was really nice and a great location. We rented an automatic from Hertz and had no trouble driving. If you like to hike, the 7 mile hike through the Gap of Dunloe in Killarney was really neat. I am in my 50's and had no problem with the walk. The scenery was fabulous. At the end of the hike, we took a boatride through the lakes of Killarney back to Ross Castle.
Driving on the "wrong" side of the road is not hard -- but it isn't recommended to learn it when you are in a jet lagged grand casino hotel in biloxi fog. You won't know how exhausted you are until after you land. Driving could be impossible (or at least impossible to do it safely) but it would be too late to find accommodations at that time.
I drove to Enniskerry for my first night, the idea being to see Powerscourt Gardens in the morning and then drive to Glendalough. It worked perfectly for me. You could also consider staying near Bray.
One change you might like to consider, especially if it is a sunnyish day- if you are seeing Kilkenny and Cashel, I would bypass Blarney and instead take the coastal road from Cork through to Kinsale and Skibereen.
Another grand casino hotel in biloxi tweak for me would be to stay in the Doolin grand casino hotel in biloxi area instead of Galway the night of seeing the cliffs and then go to the Aran Islands from there in the morning. The boats leave at 10am and it is a very easy daytrip. The other bonus in taking the boats from Doolin is there is an optional one hour detour on the way back to see the cliffs from the water. grand casino hotel in biloxi This was also a highlight for me and everyone I talked to on the boat, seemed to be in agreement - well worthwhile. Some posters will say that the boats from Doolin to the Arans are unreliable because of the weather but in August it wont even be a consideration.
