On the previous two rentals I noticed that the rental agents were amusingly nosy asking costa rica car rentals personal costa rica car rentals questions about such things as where I m going, who I m going with, what I do for a living. But this week the agent, a young guy, was so ham-handed costa rica car rentals about it that it got me wondering is this a homeland security thing?
Actually I rent several times per year (maybe 20) and mostly for business. They are friendly and ask where you re going because there are often State requirements for their mileage. For example, in Columbia you can drive to several surrounding states with no mileage charges. If you are planning to drive to (for example) Key West Florida there are additional charges for mileage and such.
Car rental is a sales job. They are paid based upon how often they can get people to do the automatic gas fill up and insurance. If they engaged in the same level of conversation as the Walmart check out person, that would not lend itself to you agreeing to the insurance. Now when the beautiful young woman chats you up for ten-minutes about your job and future goals, you re much more likely to agree to whatever she suggests.
When I dropped by my insurance agents office and inquired about liability insurance for my bike no one in the office had any idea if I could purchase such a thing. It took them about a half an hours worth of phone calls and emails to determine that they didn t sell such a thing, but that my home owners general liability clause covered such things.
I m not worried at all about liability for me as a bicyclist. Any damage that I could possibly costa rica car rentals cause, I could write a check for and not even wince. I can t imagine a situation where I would cause real damage like striking a pedestrian costa rica car rentals and causing a catastrophic injury.
The uninsured and underinsured policy protects the victim when they are struck by someone who was too poor to be driving .ie someone who only has the minimum State coverage or no insurance coverage. That strikes me as a very real possibility costa rica car rentals as a bicyclist surrounded by 3,500 pound missles. Many are driven by idiots and people who spent their insurance money on beer as opposed to insurance! YIKES!!!
While I m not reluctant to blame bad things on Obama and his lefty cronies, I think Andy is getting a little paranoid in this case. Here s why. On two recent trips to Montreal, I got a similar inquiry to his one time and no questions other than the gas return option the other. Last time I checked, homeland security and similar rules don t work up there. Nosey/chatty employees, on the other hand, are everywhere. Andy, you keep this up and you ll be a Tea Partier before you know it!
I ll confirm Robert s comments when I ve rented from Enterprise, they have typically asked what states costa rica car rentals I ll be driving in. Sometimes it affects the rates. They have never asked if I ll be getting time off or the details of my job, but did say they aren t happy if they ask what state you will be driving in and the renter says it s none of their business where their car will be.
I d also asked about non-owners auto liability policies in the past and found agents disinterested or outright hostile. Last year GEICO said they sold liability policies to non-owners; the premium was about the same as for owners with liability only. If you are renting cars every 2-3 weeks, it could easily be cheaper than the rental coverage (I also found it better than relying on the state minimum when I didn t have a car or policy.)
However, I doubt it s government-mandated, or I assume either he would have said so or it would specify in the paperwork (I could be wrong). More than likely, they want to get data about who uses their products and why so as to get a better idea of who to advertise to and what extras packages to advertise.
We experienced this line of questioning from a popular car rental costa rica car rentals agency shortly after we got rid of our car and attempted to rent one for a weekend trip. I found the experience utterly degrading, and we walked out of their office without renting a vehicle. Later we found a different rental agency that treated customers with more respect, and we also reluctantly subscribed to zipcar.
