My girl friend and I are going to France in September (lovely husbands staying catalina island vacation rentals home!!) catalina island vacation rentals we have a cooking school booked in chatellerault for a week. Our problem ( is there really one when we have a month in France without kids or husbands???!) is that we are trying to get from chatellerault to avignon, we thought we would just book a train.... Seems you can't really do that!! Any help?? Thank you in advance xx
The SNCF site only gives connections through Paris, but I'm sure you can take some local TER trains to get to Avignon. They are not bookable, though -- you just get on the train and find a seat. Even from Poitiers, the SNCF site routes you through Paris...
The fastest drive from Chatellerault to Avignon is via Clermont-Ferrand and takes 7:55 / 680 km. So, it is doable in one day, but you might enjoy a stopover in Clermont-Ferrand. This unusual city is in the heart of a volcanic district, and in the old town you will see buildings (including the magnificent cathedral) built from black volcanic stone. You should catalina island vacation rentals drive through the Vulcania park and up the Puy de Dome, the biggest volcano in the area.
From C-F, you may drive on the autoroutes to Avignon via St. Etienne which takes 4:04 / 391 km. Or you take the A 75 southwards and drive via Montpellier to Avignon (4:34 / 433 km). Both options give you the chance to leave the autoroute and drive some narrow scenic mountain catalina island vacation rentals roads.
catalina island vacation rentals Route 2: Leave the autoroute near Mende and drive via Florac into the mountains. See the scenic Cirque du Navacelles and St. Guilhem-le-desert and, if you want, the Grotte des Clamouses, a cave. After that, you might take a swim in the Mediterranean Sea before you head for Avignon.
ANother option is via Poiiers and then Massy but it has more changes. catalina island vacation rentals Use www.capitainetrain.com to try different options. IMO it is easier to fool around on than the regular site when you don't want to always reroute through Paris
I think going from St Pierre des Corps to Avignon is the best bet also, and there are trains that do go all the way to AVignon and you wouldn't have to transfer in Lyon. Not as many, but there are some and they take about 4:15 (there is one at around 2:30 pm some days), going to Avignon TGV.
It's close to an all day trip pretty much any way you look at it. Avignon isn't that easy to get to from the west as there are not even any budget airlines that fly into it (like Hop, which is good within France). Hop does fly from Poitiers to Lyon, however.
