The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority s Board of Directors unanimously voted to purchase the 60-year-old property located towards the north end of the Strip. Earlier in the week, LVCVA revealed plans to purchase the Riviera and raze the current structure. The space would after be occupied by a new 750,000-square-foot convention exhibit space in that would extend the Las Vegas Convention Center s footprint. The construction of the exhibit space is one part of LVCVA s plan to build the $2.3 billion Las Vegas Global Business District, which would moreover contain renovations of the existing convention center located along Paradise Road. The project is slated to create 6,000 construction jobs to the area and 6,000 permanent jobs once it s completed, LVCVA said. The board of directors meeting took in public comment on the fate of the landmark hotel. The meeting moreover included a 1st look at a conceptual clarion hotel and suites toronto design for the convention structure in that would occupy the Riviera space. The Riviera 1st opened in 1955 as one of the earliest resorts on the Strip.
