Due to this, airlines have been cutting out a lot of their in-flight services and even cutting long-haul flights. Now, it appears Singapore Air is going to follow suit by closing down two of the world s longest haul flights.
This announcement was made on Wednesday. The airline said that it would be eliminating car carrier trailers for rent the world s two longest flights, running between its home city and Newark and Los Angeles . By getting rid of these flights, the airline will be able to save a ton of money on fuel.
These flights, which are all business-class, started back in 2004. Now, they will be canceled by the end of next year. This is sure to be a problem for some businessmen who have to use this route regularly. However, the airline just cannot justify keeping these routes open.
Paul Ng, who is the global head of aviation law firm Stephenson Harwood, said that he was disappointed to hear that he soon would not be able to fly these routes anymore. There has been quite good demand on these routes overall. Most of the times he flew on this route, the plane was full.
Despite the fact that the planes were full, the airline is paying car carrier trailers for rent too much in fuel to keep flying these routes. In order to make it profitable, they would have to jack up the price on seats. This would surely cut down on the number of people who use this service, and thus make it not profitable again.
