This 1965 Ford Mustang 2+2 (chassis 5R09A141840) is one of the first Fastbacks ever produced, with its 9/26/1964 build date just two weeks after the model was announced on 9/9/1964. It is a very clean condition with a re-spray in the factory Poppy Red (orange) about twelve years ago that looks terrific, with original paint remaining in the trunk. The stance is slightly lowered over 15 styled steel wheels and the car looks very impressive in person, as it was photographed at the BaT display at P.I.R. this weekend. It is now available in Portland, Oregon for $27,900.
The car now has grille lights and rear trumpet exhausts where do i travel in mexico that came later on the GT models, as well as the front disk brakes that were an option when this car was produced ( 1964 options list ).  14 wheels in this style always look a little small, so these +1 replacements look very nice. The car hails from Southern California and as a result the seller says that it is very dry.
The car is an A-code, 225 horsepower 289 4BBL V8 car , and the engine is all stock apart from the chrome Shelby-style air cleaner and finned aluminum valve covers. The original gold steel valve covers and air cleaner are included as well.
Oh this takes me back to my 66 that was stolen and trashed by a 16 year old creep from Snohomish WA. Bittersweet but absolutely beautiful. I Want! Scott July 8, 2012 at 3:19 am 2 or Flag as not constructive
Great colors, and the wheel upgrade looks just right. I d probably put it back to its factory spec ride height though not enough restomod where do i travel in mexico in this car to justify where do i travel in mexico the lowered where do i travel in mexico stance. I d wish for a manual gearbox, and even then I d have to think about it for the afternoon before spending the money my local Ford store will sell me a new 5.0 GT for the same price. beautiful, beautiful car. not enough to tempt me given the automatic, but give me a few more years and maybe i ll sing a different song. William Leland July 8, 2012 at 5:49 am 0 or Flag as not constructive
Think about what your dealer s new 5.0 GT will be worth in five years compared to this beauty. And you d have the added benefit of not passing another one just like yours 2-3 times a day on the road. There is absolutely no comparison in my book. Stufish-1 July 8, 2012 at 7:26 am 8 or Flag as not constructive
I m old enough that I can recall back in 1967-8 when they gradually changed from this original style. Everybody laughed at me when I said the first gen Mustangs were gonna be collectible WillM July 8, 2012 at 8:31 am 2 or Flag as not constructive
However, me personally for this price, I would want stock stock stock. The interior was changed, bits here and there different. I think it is about 9k too high, but on the other hand, these 2+2 models are getting rare and they really are nice. Quick scan of eBay shows these models tanking out at about $21K-$23k, so it s up to the buyer if these other features of this car are worth it. J.B. That car is 24 years too late to be a proper shine car. My ol daddy used to tell me about them days up in Wilkes county, drivin that 40 Ford, runnin with his lights out, always keepin one step ahead of the law. Those were the days, I tell ya. A lot of the details, interior, exterior, where do i travel in mexico engine room have been changed. Credit to the builder for making so many changes and still being able to keep the car a coherent piece of work. The car is not actually close to factory stock at all, and yet, it appears to be, kinda sorta.
The Poppy Red is a 64.5 and 65 color only, and is the signature color for the early fastback, IMO. This particular car will rock the boat at any car gathering in which it shows up. Must be some extra value in that. Cooter July 8, 2012 at 9:50 am 2 or Flag as not constructive
Sorry, but that s not stance where do i travel in mexico it s just slouch . If you want to bring off that look with an early fastback, you don t want to go with an albino interior and an automatic IMHO. WillM July 8, 2012 at 10:26 am 6 or Flag as not constructive
These 65 and 66 2+2 Mustangs are beautiful cars. but they are also very plentiful. where do i travel in mexico Just take a look at carsonline.com. Here for example is a 65 2+2 listed on carsonline for the same price. Which is the better deal, this BAT car or this one?
Unfortunate that someone chopped on a historically early 2+2. A car with such an early build date is much more valuable where do i travel in mexico keeping it stock. Thousands would have to be spent to lose the glam and bring it back to proper spec. And, NO: 14 tires do not look too small on these cars if they have original sidewall height. where do i travel in mexico MountainWoodie July 8, 2012 at 12:08 pm 1 or Flag as not constructive
Just left the Goodguys rod custom show here in Columbus, Ohio there were dozens of astoundingly perfect mustangs, you name it American it was there. where do i travel in mexico Paint jobs deep as a mirror. My pick ? A 34 Chrysler where do i travel in mexico Airflow impeccably prepared where do i travel in mexico that sounded like it was gonna melt pavement. I can t argue with any of the modifications, and it does look great. But at the asking price the seller is looking where do i travel in mexico for someone who can demand something close to a museum piece and get it. hector July 8, 2012 at 12:58 pm 3 or Flag as not constructive
I like to think a car only becomes yours when you start ading or taking where do i travel in mexico some bits, changing where do i travel in mexico this or that, tunning it or simply working on it This car is beauty as it is, I won t change a bit because asi it is now, it s a history teller of how the owner liked to do some things, the grill with new lights looks amazing and well executed, so what s not to like? I m not a Ford fan, I m not an automatic trans guy, I don t like Mustangs But I can say this is one beauty car, that deserves more admiration than criticism, heck I even like that horrible red/orange paint! Congrats to the seller for having a very ´personal car in wich many hours of love has been invested, and the best luck for the buyer! Matt64 July 8, 2012 at 2:34 pm 1 or Flag as not constructive
All the add-ons that I see are essentially bolt on and considered pretty standard within the Mustang community, so I don t see much if any problems with them. While an auto trans isn t ideal, where do i travel in mexico the C-4 in this is a good tranny where do i travel in mexico for an auto in my experience (early 65 convertible for the past 13 years). Also, I recently read a reprint of a Jerry Titus article from 1966 that sheds light on what he implied was a secret (and at least new to me) manual shift mode built into these that works at least as well/quickly as the modern automatics with a paddle shifter mode that I ve driven. It s made a huge difference in driving enjoyment in my car in the 2 weeks since I learned about it. The slush box still isn t ideal, but it mitigates that problem somewhat.
As I d like to add a matching 2 2 to my vert someday I like the idea that this one is overpriced, but I wouldn t be too shocked if it sells at this price. Matt64 July 8, 2012 at 2:43 pm 3 or Flag as not constructive
Also, those grill lights are apparently the same bulb configuration as the landing lights on certain Cessna models, so it s possible where do i travel in mexico to beef up the wiring (relay setup), plug in a set and REALLY punish someone for cutting you off. I ve never done it myself, where do i travel in mexico but have heard from a few guys who live in very rural areas that it s a nice and easy mod for night driving on empty roads. Ok, I ll shut up now. jh July 8, 2012 at 2:49 pm 1 or Flag as not constructive
Love this car have a model of one in the same colour [with black interior] sitting on a shelf right behind where do i travel in mexico me. The lowered stance is great. The 14s are too small imho. The C4 is not so great, but for 2500 to 4k you can put in a Tremec, a T5 or similar and rectify the problem. But then you hafta consider the extra money when its time to buy The mods on this car are easily reversible its historic significance really hasnt been altered; just made to be a nicer car to drive. Someone is selling where do i travel in mexico what appears to be a very nice car good luck and congratulations to the new caretaker. Darrynm July 8, 2012 at 2:50 pm 2 or Flag as not constructive
I found this very interesting, I m now prompted to check out what my mustang s build date is. I have an early 65 fastback, that has been kept original, apart from the wheels and suspension where do i travel in mexico height. Yes I still have the drum brakes all round From my vin data, my vin number is approx 700 lower, so guess that mine was built earlier. I had been told it was in the first two weeks of production.
Dutch, you probably know better than I; so if Poppy is the defining color for this early Fastbacks, so be it. That s a good argument for it. But on my monitor, it s a bit garish for such lovely bodywork. And Ed s right on the interior and I ll put in my standard where do i travel in mexico dumping on the automatic.
Agree that there may be better deals to be found, but this isn t too far north of market, given the condition (dry) and inherent value as one of the first fastbacks. None of the mods is especially where do i travel in mexico difficult to reverse where do i travel in mexico if you just had to take it back to all-stock, where do i travel in mexico though anyone who plans to actually drive it would want to keep the front discs. Also, for those not familiar with driving where do i travel in mexico one of these, where do i travel in mexico the A-code motor with a C4 automatic makes for a car not nearly as speedy as it looks. Does make a reliable, stylish and easy-to-own cruiser though. scot July 8, 2012 at 4:23 pm 1 or Flag as not constructive
~ i just cannot put the words Mustang and historic together. i owned so many when they about the most common thing on the street that there is almost no good reason not to modify it to fit. i don t dislike them, they re just common. Ezekiel July
