I've found the Renaissance is cheaper than the Hilton across the street from the arena as the Hilton
The Holiday Inn, Double Tree, Courtyard Marriot, walt disney world cheap tickets and obviously the Hilton (which is right across the street) are all within walking distance. I don't know much about pricing though. There is also the fancy hotels like the Renaissance and Hermitage, but those are pretty expensive.

I've found the Renaissance is cheaper than the Hilton across the street from the arena as the Hilton doesn't seem to offer as many discounts. However, the visiting hockey teams usually stay at the Renaissance so it may be full with a game on the 18th.
There's also the Sheraton which is on the corner of 7th and Union, and there's a new hotel - Hotel Indigo - on the corner of 3rd and Union. I've stayed at the Sheraton and it's a nice place. Friends stayed at the Hotel Indigo this past June and said it was nice as well.
15-20 minutes. Though depending on traffic/construction maybe longer. They do have shuttles that go from the hotel to downtown though. Also, the hotel isn't actually open yet but will be around November 15th.
