It was announced today that Delta Air Lines has equipped over 19,000 of its flight attendants with Nokia Lumia 820s that feature special point-of-sale software for onboard purchases. The devices, which connect to Wi-Fi and AT T's 4G LTE network , can process credit card transactions for customer purchases nelly tour dates and also email receipts. The ability to read coupons on a customer's mobile device will be added in the future. Delta also notes that attendants on its Delta Connection flights will adopt Lumia 820s on Aug. 26.
This rollout of Lumia 820s is the result of an agreement between Microsoft, nelly tour dates Avanade and AT T. As part of the deal, this solution will expand over the next three years and will include the latest Nokia-made hardware.
Using a credit card to pay for goods while in the air is nothing new, but it's pretty neat to see that Delta flight attendants will begin using smartphones to handle transactions rather than some random card reader or something like that. Plus, I'm sure that Microsoft and Nokia don't mind that this deal will result in thousands of Lumia 820s being exposed nelly tour dates to consumers.
