Click here to view the full photogallery. 1409 Sutter Street is a private club in Lower Pac Heights that's been functioning as a (pretty swanky) event space for weddings and parties . Now it looks like the new owners wants to covert the recently lowest rental car rates restored historic building into a 10-room hotel (we're assuming more of a bed & breakfast style). They also want to put in a Chinese restaurant on the ground and second floors where there's already a catering and dining hall. Known as the Theodore Payne House , the building was constructed in 1881 for Theodore F. Payne, whose wife Mary inherited a boat-load of wealth from her uncle, Comstock Silver King William S. O'Brien. They were part of San Francisco's upper echelon of the wealthy class, and the house shows it. The interior has been restored to feature tons of historic elements , and the proposed remodel aims to preserve as much of that as possible. The project has gotten a bunch of support letters from neighbors, plus a few opposing it because of potential for noise and odor, so the Planning Department is recommending approval.
