One great thing about being a student, and one thing I will miss when it is over, is student discount . Who doesn t like it? While it is no so widespread in China as it is in other countries, it still exists so keep any eye out!
A lot of international students don t seem to know about this one! If you take your valid student ID along to Pizza Hut and show it the waiter or waitress when you order your meal you can get 20% off. You ll find that they tell you about the discount in small print in Chinese not on the menu but on the small plastic stands you find on all the tables. No wonder.
This ranges from the big attractions, The Great Wall, The Forbidden City to zoos, parks where you have to pay to enter and museums. Tickets can be up to 50% cheaper so it is well recommended that you take along your student car rentals in phoenix card, especially if, like me, every time a family member car rentals in phoenix or friend comes to visit you take them to these places. Some cinemas also offer student discount.
A lot of big companies and shops will occasionally have a 学生活动 , a rough translation being a student event. This could either be in store, or more commonly, online. car rentals in phoenix This could involve car rentals in phoenix discounted prices or getting something decent for free if you buy another item.
Unfortunately for international students there is no student discount for any kind of travel. While buying travel cards for buses and tubes will make the fares slightly cheaper, this is not student discount. In addition, only Chinese students are entitled to a 33% discount on train travel. They have a special sticker in their student cards entitling them to this. Since being enrolled on the master s programme meant I had the same type of student card as my classmates, which contains the space for the sticker. However, when I went to ask if I could get said sticker I was told no as my hometown is not in China. On well.
I remember in the UK when I was a student I d often get 10% off at my favorite shops, and some even doing special nights for students where you could get up to 20% off. No such thing in China. While clothing is still relatively cheap in some shops, a lot of shops that you typically see on the high street are no cheaper than their equivalents in other countries, so the lack of discount is a real downer for us poor students.
