This past weekend, my cousin Aimee was visiting from Denver, and we went on the Harlem Walking Tour.

Some people have terrific ideas, and one of the best ideas I have come across while traveling is the free walking tour. If people enjoy the tour (which they normally do) then you give your guide a gracious tip rather than committing to a disappointing $35 tour.
In New York City, Free Tours by Foot offers a variety of walking tours through most of the Manhattan neighborhoods, including Harlem, Central Park, Mid-Town, Financial District and many other neighborhoods. My intention is to go on every single one of these tours in the next six months, whether by myself, with my husband or with an out-of-town guest.
This past weekend, my cousin Aimee was visiting from Denver, and we went on the Harlem Walking Tour. The area is so charming and there is a bevy of history. It s changed greatly since the Dutch inhabited most of New York and it s hard to imaging there was once farming and agriculture in the concrete jungle that is Manhattan. The tour began with a brief history lesson and delved into the Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Movement and present day Harlem, with its many restaurants, bars and clubs.
It s an eclectic and gorgeous neighborhood, what with its gorgeous architecture and tree-lined streets. Culturally diverse, there are people from all walks of life throughout Harlem, including Latinos, Africans, African-Americans, Jewish and many other ethnicities.
I highly recommend this tour for anyone atlantis hotel reno interested atlantis hotel reno in learning about history of Harlem it produced so many people who are part of America s patchwork of history, including Ella Fitzgerald, Langston Hughes and Adam Clayton Powell. If you choose this tour, be sure to grab a bit to eat at Red Rooster or Sylvia s! Great soul food.
