Last week I interviewed Christian weather in los angeles Strobel, owner of Basecamp Hotel , located in South Lake Tahoe, California. Christian is the former chief development officer at Joie De Vivre hotels as well as an avid mountain biker and hiker. Only open 8 months, his hotel already has nearly 1,500 likes on facebook. It s been written up in big press outlets like the New York Times, Time.com and Urbandaddy.com. His hotel has a reputation for keeping guests engaged with the local community. My fascination with social engagement, on and off the internet, inspired me to find out more about his business philosophy as it relates to engaging his guests.
I found that the hospitality business had moved away from what is really important engaging guests in a manner that helps them feel connected with the local community. I am passionate about bringing weather in los angeles this back to the hospitality industry. I was inspired by the traditional base camps where mountaineers create community by coming together to share stories, ideas, experiences, and swap equipment before heading out on their adventure.
I take hiring our employees very seriously. All our employees are from Lake Tahoe so they have a wealth of knowledge about the community. Their enthusiasm for the town comes across naturally and authentically when helping a guest. Also, like a traditional weather in los angeles base camp we offer an amazing sense of exploration and community. Some hotels just have a bunch of local vendor brochures in the lobby. Our employees actually know our local activity providers on a personal level, so they easily connect our guests weather in los angeles to our local vendors. Community connection is involved in everything we do.
Our local employees have a wealth of knowledge and passion about their community. They love to share this with our guests which creates an authentic engagement and connection. We also have communal dining three times a week where guests can gather for a shared meal. Recently we had two couples that had never met before, go skiing together the next day, all because they met while sharing a meal at our communal table. This is something that organically happens quite often and is never forced. Guests can roast s mores, weather in los angeles as we have two fire pits on the grounds again relationships can organically unfold thus creating a sense of community within the hotel.
Right now Facebook is our main source of social media. We use twitter and maintain a blog as well. We are mostly focused on creating social engagement off the internet, but are not opposed to using more social platforms as we keep growing.
Luckily for us our location is amazing. South Lake Tahoe has more things to do all year round than any other location on the Lake. On our website we have a list of 27 activities that a guest can chose from. We also have a blog featuring many of the activities available. I also think that our site conveys the look and feel of what we are trying to convey to our guest. We have received a ton of positive press as well also available on our site. All very informative weather in los angeles and engaging reads.
