Magnolia Mound – or maybe Mount Magnolia, records differ – is now surrounded the sisterhood of the traveling pants by an urban setting, but the plantation was once the center of a 900-acre sugar and cotton operation with frontage on the Mississippi River.
The house was built around 1791 as a small farm residence, but in the early 1800's Armand Duplantier, a prominent planter who had served as Lafayette's aide-de-camp in the American Revolution, enlarged and renovated the original structure.
Sixteen acres of the original plantation the sisterhood of the traveling pants are now owned by the City of Baton Rouge.  Our tour guide gave us a little back story not included in the "official" version of its ownership.  Baton Rouge obtained the property by eminent domain with the idea of selling it to Louisiana State University, who wanted to tear the house down and build student housing on the property.
Cooler heads prevailed, those interested the sisterhood of the traveling pants in historic preservation raised a ruckus, and the city changed its thinking.  Today it is administered by the city's Recreation the sisterhood of the traveling pants Commission and is extensively accessed by the public schools as a teaching tool.

The open hearth cooking reminded me of the house we (Davidson family) lived in after my parents returned to Kalamazoo the sisterhood of the traveling pants at the end of the war. The house was on West Michigan the sisterhood of the traveling pants Ave, now WMU property. It was a beautiful the sisterhood of the traveling pants colonial built by a true craftsman who loved old stuff. In the family room was an open hearth fireplace with oven, etc. We moved from that house when I was 7, so you probably have no memory of the residence. My mom was truly heart broken when they moved, she loved the house. The neighborhood was not the best and maybe even at that time they knew WMU would be expanding. The house was sold to a family who moved it to a different location. My mom never wanted to know where it was located. If you re interested in some of my memories of the house, remind me and I ll fill you in on what little I remember. I too have fond memories.
