It appears Garton is replacing Richard P. Schifter, a TPG Capital hotel asia bangkok partner who resigned from the Republic board on Monday, Dec. 16. Schifter is one of board members of the new American Airlines Group, created Dec. 9 in the merger of American Airlines and US Airways.
It was announced last summer that Garton would be departing American Eagle Airlines and AMR Eagle Holdings when the new management team took its place at American Airlines Group. A lawsuit delayed the changeover by more than three months, but the transfer of leadership took place with the Dec. 9  merger and American's emergence from bankruptcy court.
