The beer was pretty hit or miss. It seemed carnival cruise reviews like most of the regulars had an almost salty aftertaste carnival cruise reviews while the seasonals were good to great. The good news is that you have between 8 and 10 to choose from and can always go with guest beers if the locals don't seem right.
I've been a regular at the Brew for years now. Since it was Cedar Brewing. The beer there, carnival cruise reviews to me, has always carnival cruise reviews had some quality to it that was the same in every beer, something I thought took away from the experience. Then they had their boiler crap out. I think that was great though.
I have visited this place as it was known as Cedar Brewing and now as Third Base. Everytime has been utterly forgettable. The beers have always been poor imitations of the actual beer style. The food has often been just one step below average. The wait staff has often been good, but occasionally are inattentive. It seems as if the owner really doesn't care about beer, but is attempting to trade in on a craft brewing theme. Travel on to Iowa City for a decent brew pub.
I've visited twice in the last two weeks as I've passed through. The first time I was with 2 friends and we stopped in to catch the Packers playoff game. Joint was packed and was a little smoky, but not too bad. Our waitress was cute and friendly, but not very beer savvy and wasn't overly attentive. We all ordered something different on the menu and all liked our selections. Mine was the tenderloin and it was good. My friends had nachos and a burger and they were good as well.
The beer I thought was very good if you consider the limitations. Apparently Iowa law doesn't allow them to brew beer over 6% without taxing it as Liquor and needing more regulation and a bunch of other bs. Because of that, the Belgium Double was good, but thin. You could tell that under normal circumstances it would be much better. The other beers were all pretty good and were good represenations of their styles. I don't remember them all, but I believe they had a filtered wheat, an Irish and a Pale Ale. BUT, what got my attention was the CR Red IPA. It was FANTASTIC! IBU of 80, just under 6%, nice reddish-copper tone, TONS of aromatic hops. Was just what I was looking for. I bought 2 growlers to go for the remainder of the trip.
Coming back through town I stopped again just to get my growlers refilled. It was Friday at about 4:30 and I had to wait 15 minutes to even get noticed. carnival cruise reviews I was a little upset at that. But, once noticed, the girl was attentive. It took another 20 minutes to get the growlers filled, which is a little long, but still, the beer was worth it!
Up until a month ago, this was Cedar Brewing. It has now re-opened with new ownership and managment. I was told that they are using the same brewmaster as before. I think it is important to start a new listing, as the experience I had was not at all like some of those written about under Cedar Brewing.
It was my first visit to Cedar Rapids and I visited Third Base twice. Both time I was made to feel at home by the bartender, the real regulars sitting next to me at the bar, and the waitresses. by the end of my second visit, I felt like I, too, was a regular.
carnival cruise reviews The beer was ok. Definately drinkable, but not outstanding (but much better than the beer served at the Granite City located a couple carnival cruise reviews blocks away). The best was a Honey Bock, followed by a stout and a red. They also had a pale ale, lite clone and a wheat on tap. Yes, they are brewing for the masses, but if that is what allows them to make a profit, more power to them.
Finally, they are in a strip mall--but so what? I've been to some very good brewpubs, carnival cruise reviews like The Oaken Barrel in Indianapolis, that are in strip malls and had some very bad beer in brewpubs located in reinovated buildings.
The beer ranges carnival cruise reviews from very good indeed to drinkable. The best were a Scotish Ale and a Honey Bock, Both were very drinkable. The ot.her beers, including a Irish, a Pala, and a Stout were not bad, bur not great.
