In 2011 our dog Duffy became 17. This is very old for any dog. We feel blessed that Duffy's final full year with us that she was healthy. My wife and I decided that we would take separate vacations so one of us could be with Duffy. Carla went to Holland to visit her family and friends in early spring and late autumn.
I am always looking up airfares and places to go. KLM had just started to fly non-stop from New York to Copenhagen. In March I saw an airfare, in May 2011, of $483. It was astonishing. That is less than half of what you would expect! My wife Carla took it as a sign that I should go. So on Saturday evening May 14th I took my first trip, to another country, totally on my own. I came back on May 19th. These are my notes from the trip.
It was a positive trip. You DON'T HAVE to go to Copenhagen in your lifetime but if you get the chance-do it! It's a very good city. For me it was a chance to get away, not check into work all the time and to prove that at age *coughcough* I can still do new things. It a good city for Americans like me; it s not too big, it s safe, people are very friendly, it s old European but modern. I don t think I ll ever be ready to go to a place like Moscow asking people, do you know the way back to Red Square?
The flights to and from Copenhagen were fine, in fact they arrived a little early. The train ride from the airport to downtown is exactly 12 minutes. The staff was great and helped me with things on what the local weather was like, things I needed for the room, etc. But the room was small with a very small bed. As I ventured a bit from the main road I did find the central library on Tuesday. I figured I was destined to check in once and was pleased to hear that the Internet was free to use and I could be on it without a time limit. I also came across the guards walking to the Royal Palace for the changing of the guards in the middle of town. I have a picture of them in front of the H M store. I felt comfortable using our new camera.

When I go away I enjoy myself and don t necessarily worry about putting things on a credit card or exchanging travelers checks.
